AUSXIP's 25th Anniversary - Enter to Win a Salute to Xena Ticket or Personalised Xena Book!

MESSAGE FROM MARYD

Image

G’day everyone! Well that day has finally arrived. AUSXIP has turned 25 years old and to say thanks to the Xenaverse for your support over the last 25 years… I have a mega giveaway!

Before I outline how you can win a gold ticket to the Salute to Xena Convention for November 2022 (Seriously, I’m giving away a gold ticket – great seat too!)

My life changed forever on December 14, 1996 when I sat down to record “Sins of the Past” for my friend Xero and I got hooked. I have a short attention span for TV Shows. I gave the whole thing six months until I lost interest. Somewhere along the line that six months time limit never showed up!

How do you celebrate a site that has been part of my life for the last 25 years and has been supported by the Xenaverse for just as long? How do you say thank you for all the friendships that have been created; for the experiences and the laughter? How?

How do you say thanks for the support in raising $261,169.91 for The Starship Foundation, The House of Bards Theatre Company and other charity raising events?

How do you thank this incredible group of people that make up the Xenaverse who turned out in droves to buy a book dedicated to this incredible fandom? Not just the ebook, or the paperback but the DELUXE Edition of Xena: Their Courage Changed Our World – $$ pricey “little” tome. Bloody hell people you floored me with the reaction. ABSOLUTELY FLOORED ME. The Starship Foundation and The House of Bards Theatre Company have been ecstatic with the royalties from that baby!

The words ‘thank you’ doesn’t cover it. For me, actions speak louder than words. Here is my action: Here is a gift from me to all of you… A GOLD TICKET to the Salute to Xena Convention by Creation Entertainment in November!

What seat? How does Row E, Seat 018 sound? Enter your name in the submission form to win! If you can’t go, you can enter for your friend to go! Go, enjoy and be merry (and carry Xena: Their Courage Changed Our World book with you so you can get everyone’s autographs!).

For those who can’t attend (THANKS COVID), how about you enter to win a personalised copy of the Deluxe Edition of Xena: Their Courage Changed Our World? Win/Win!

Enter to win: https://ausxip.com

Thank you for 25 years!

BATTLE ON!!!

Press Release: Rewriting Extinction and WEBTOON Team To Tackle Climate Crisis Including Lucy

WEBTOON, the world's leading webcomic platform is to partner with Rewriting Extinction, the historic global 12-month comic storytelling campaign that supports seven charitable projects tackling biodiversity and the climate crisis. The campaign has united 300 celebrities, experts, activists, indigenous leaders, and storytellers to create over 150 emotive comic stories on an environmental theme. Under this new partnership launching November 29, WEBTOON will adapt select Rewriting Extinction comics for the platform, and develop a series of brand new comics by WEBTOON creators that aim to raise awareness and funds for these initiatives.

Safely Endangered, War and Peas, Dinos and Comics, Dami Lee, Buddy Gator, Jenny Jinya, Alicia Souza, and Lunarbaboon are just some of the comic artists to have created powerful content for Rewriting Extinction, in collaboration with Cara Delevingne, Taika Waititi, Lucy Lawless, Ricky Gervais, Andy Serkis, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellan, Dr. Jane Goodall, and many more. Short and long-format comics are released weekly on Rewriting Extinction's social media platforms to raise funding and awareness for its mission: to provide a central platform for leading environmental charities to raise the necessary funds and awareness for seven evidence-based projects that address both the climate and biodiversity crisis. To date, the campaign has attracted over 100 million views.

From November 29, WEBTOON will curate a selection of Rewriting Extinction's standalone comics to adapt for the platform, while also developing new comics from WEBTOON creators. All comics within this series will be accessible for free, with key information about where to support these projects. The partnership will connect these important stories with WEBTOON's 72+ million monthly readers globally, and presents a pivotal juncture for Rewriting Extinction, opening it up to new-gen comic fans worldwide. A comprehensive anthology of these comics titled The Most Important Comic Book on Earth (Dorling Kindersley), will publish in the UK on October 28 and in the U.S. on November 2, with a foreword written by Scott Snyder.

Further details, including translation to local languages, will be unveiled soon. The comics will initially be available in English via WEBTOON.com and the WEBTOON app.

Commenting on the partnership, Rewriting Extinction founder Paul Goodenough says: "WEBTOON as a platform is an astounding vehicle, but key to my love for WEBTOON is that the vehicle is driven by courteous, kind, and caring people. I'm beyond proud. It's every comic creator's dream to work with WEBTOON - and together we'll be able to do more good, and reach more people, than ever before." David Lee, head of content at WEBTOON Entertainment, U.S., says: "Rewriting Extinction's mission to creatively address biodiversity and the climate crisis is innovative and inspiring, and one that resonates with many of WEBTOON's passionate and purpose-driven readers and creators. WEBTOON is proud to collaborate with Rewriting Extinction to bring these engaging stories to the platform to help raise awareness and funds for an incredible cause."

DC: 10 TV Heroes Exactly Like Wonder Woman - Including Xena

Here's another list which features Xena. DC: 10 TV Heroes Exactly Like Wonder Woman. I have a problem with this list.

Jadzia Dax is #9? What? I love Dax, and have done so since Episode 1 of ST:DS9 but come on... Buffy is #6 - (Willow should have been on this list if they were to include Buffy The Vampire Slayer...)

Who puts these lists together! Xena below Buffy AND Dax? CJ Cregg is on the list? CJ CREGG? (I also love this character but...) Where is Ivanova of Babyon 5? How can you leave out "God"? Seriously, this is a ridiculous list.

Number 10

Xena Is An Obvious Comparison

Spun off from Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena: Warrior Princess starred Lucy Lawless as the titular character as she worked to redeem herself for her past actions. The series, created by John Schulian and Robert Tapert, quickly became a cult hit thanks in no small part because of the fantastic work by Lawless in the role. It can be hard to look at Xena and not think of Wonder Woman. Both are characters with connections to Greek mythology, and both have become examples of strong female characters in fiction.

Lucy and Renee Compete on Tiny Kitchen Cook-Off!

Lucy and Renee will be pitted against each other in the "Tiny Kitchen Cook-Off" - Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor are on board for making Tiny Chili Cheese Nachos. I think we all know who will win this comp...

More about this event

The new Tastemade "Tiny" series, "Tiny Kitchen Cook-Off," strikes us as what you might get if "Tiny Talk" and "Tiny Kitchen" were to get married and have a baby, boasting an appetite for friendly competition among "game" celebrities. Based on the "Tiny" twins series, which have a total of more than 2 billion global views to date, according to a press release sent to Mashed, "Tiny Kitchen Cook-Off" will be hosted by Monica Padman, a producer and actress who is probably most famous for her work with creative powerhouse couple, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell

On each episode, Radman will be interviewing two celebrity guests while they attempt to re-create some of the most iconic "Tiny" recipes. Of course, this will all take place on a tiny kitchen set that features tiny utensils and tiny ingredients. After the celebrities present their tiny creations, it will then be up to Padman to determine who, in her opinion, made the best tiny impression. The prize? A very tiny trophy.

The premise of "Tiny Kitchen Cook-Off" is that on each episode, two celebrity guests will be pitted against one another to see who can re-create the best version of one of the tiny dishes that has already been made popular by the "Tiny Talk" and "Tiny Kitchen" franchise.

Woman's Day (27 September 2021) Lucy Interview Reveals More About "Top Secret" Project with Renee

ImageThis week's NZ Woman's Day has an interview with Lucy. It covers My Life is Murder and how Lucy wants to "disappear" from the screen and go behind the scenes. This is where she talks more about her "top secret" project. The project (has no name yet) consists of her producing and directing the "it". Lucy will team up with Renee O'Connor and that's about all we know.

Here's what we know:

Lucy is Producing and Directing
It involves Renee O'Connor
Lucy is making this happen in the US
Not a drama

The "Top Secret" Project was first brought up in the NZ Woman's Weekly 20 September 2021 Issue (you can read about it here: NZ Woman's Weekly: Lucy and Renee Planning on Working Together In "Top Secret" Project)

In the NZ Woman's Day 27 September 2021 Issue we get a little more about the "Top Secret" Project and why Lucy wants to do it. She's in the US at the moment for this mysterious project:

"As for Rob, he won't be joining Lucy as she braves the pandemic and heads to Los Angeles to go hell for leather in the direction of her latest dream, a top-secret project she's producing and directing. "I'm really excited. It's something very new for me - not a drama but very cool. There'll be no room for anything else in my life for a while, so my only other dream for this year is that I manage to get back home and out of MIQ by Christmas."

*MIQ is what the hotel quarantine system NZ has in place for returned travellers and tourists is called.

You can find the full interview in this week's Woman's Day (27 September 2021) issue.

Star Wars: Lucy Lawless May Have Lost Part in Franchise After Mandalorian Fancasting - Comicbook.com 29 September 2021

Lucy's was interviewed with ComicBook.com and it was released on 29 September 2021. Lucy discusses My Life is Murder and a little bit about her going behind the camera for her "Top Secret" project with Renee O'Connor. She also revealed that lost out on a role with Lucasfilm for a character in the Star Wars franchise - this info was originally from the Metro Intereview 27 September 2021.

More information about the "Top Secret" Project can be found here:

ImageNow to the interview and the revelation that maybe Lucy lost the gig with Lucasfilm for a role in the Star Wars galaxy because of the fans going into bat for her for the role of Cara Dune in the Mandalorian (I haven't watched the show so I had no clue who Gina Carano was or her role as Cara Dune).

Gina shared several controversial and anti-semitic posts on social media and got more attention that she bargained for. It ignited a firestorm (as it rightly should) Star Wars / Mandalorian fanbase and the fans called for her removal. She was terminated and the producers were going to recast the role. The fans wanted Lucy Lawless to get the role and this is where it may have backfired on Lucy who was in discussions with Lucasfilm for a role in the franchise at the time (not for the role of Cara Dune).

The following was posted on the comicbook.com site about the recasting and Lucy losing a role (not the Cara Dune role) which referenced the Metro Interview with Lucy where she mentioned about not getting the role with Lucasfilm:

In a recent interview with Metro , Lawless revealed that she had been in talks with Lucasfilm for a different role in the Star Wars galaxy, but that the offer might have fallen through due to the fan campaign.

"Well to be honest with you, I was already in discussions about something on - it wasn't The Mandalorian - something Star Wars-affiliated," Lawless revealed. "It might have hurt me in some way because then they couldn't hire me because it would seem to be pandering to... I'm just guessing here, I don't know anything, but in some ways, it can be unhelpful, because if they pander to this fan group, then how are you going to pander to every other fan group, do you know what I mean?"

"I became political and I had nothing to do with the discussion," she continued. "But that’s the way the world is and they meant it out of love, and I thank the fans for their fealty to me. I haven’t thought about that since, so it hasn’t given me any pain, but that was my thought at the time, like, ooh, this makes me look like a political appointment, and not an actress."
