Happy Birthday Xena - AUSXIP Charity Auction Totals!

Happy Xenaversary everyone!!!

Auction Update:

With the support of the Xenaverse, actors such as Renee O'Connor, Lucy Lawless, Adrienne Wilkinson and many others, we have raised (tentative total, not counting any additional donations) $13,293.97 NZD. That brings our combined total for all auctions held since 2006 to $198,293!

Just an amazing number. Xena's legacy has been to help others and to do it for the Greater Good. On her 23rd Anniversary, the Xenaverse has come together and created something special. Without your support, this auction would not have gotten off the ground in 2006 and continued since then.

I have informed Starship that a whole lot of money is heading their way! THANK YOU everyone who supported, who bid and who won! BLESS YOU ALL!

Thank you also goes to my team who are EXTRAORDINARY. Without them, it would be impossible to have this auction.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR WARRIOR AND HER BARD! 23 Years ago a show was born and changed our lives!
I will have more to say about this once the Starship Auction is over....

GettyImages-585578844_master-e1472683888297

ATTENTION LUCY LAWLESS FANS: Okay well it's September and you know what that means - it's Starship's Spring Clean! Lucy has donated something for the auction. If you all remember what we did last year with Lucy's Xena robe - the auction was on two sites - the TradeMe site for Australian and New Zealand bidders and AUSXIP Charity site for everyone else.

Starship and Lucy would like everyone to have the opportunity to bid so once again I've become the proxy bidder on the Trademe site for everyone who bids on the AUSXIP site. It worked out really well last year. I can't tell you what Lucy donated UNTIL Monday but I can tell you - you are going to LOVE it. Guaranteed you will love it.

Recently I had to upgrade the software on the AUSXIP Charity Auction site but with the upgrade came the wipe out of everyone’s registrations. You will need to register again http://charity.ausxip.com/register.php

Kiwi Stars’ Kitchen Confessions Featuring Lucy’s I-hate-cooking frittata Recipe NZ Woman’s Weekly 30 August 2016

Lucy has donated a frittata recipe to a new New Zealand book “Cooking 4 Change” which was released on 26 August in New Zealand. The NZ Woman’s Weekly featured Lucy as part of the book promotion and included her “The I-hate-cooking frittata”

Kiwi stars' kitchen confessions

Kiwi stars Sam Neill, Hilary Barry and Lucy Lawless let Erin Simpson in on their kitchen secrets.

Erin and her team went to great lengths to get Lucy Lawless’s delicious “I hate cooking” frittata recipe.

Going to Lucy’s home to shoot her for the book required a very quick change of plans, Erin explains.

“We were shooting with [women’s Black Sticks captain] Kayla Whitelock down in Palmerston North, and then Lucy calls us, ‘Yup, I can do it! See you tomorrow in Auckland at 11.30.’”

After Erin and the crew shared a brief moment of panic, they hatched a plan to get back up to Auckland in time. After all, it was Lucy Lawless, and Erin and Dick had been trying to find a time for her to cook her recipe for weeks and weeks.

“We were like, ‘Oh, okay! Well, if Lucy can do it then, then we’ll make it happen!’ So we ditched the rental car we were supposed to drive back up in, all booked flights and made it to her place on time the next day. And she was absolutely lovely! It was so worth it.”

The I-hate-cooking frittata

Image636082649493851505

Serves 2
- 6 eggs
- Milk, for mixing
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- Oil or butter, for cooking
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- Small bunch silverbeet, stalks removed and leaves finely chopped
- 50g creamy goat’s cheese, crumbled
- Anything else you have to hand that you’d like to add, for example chopped leftover cooked potatoes, ham and/or capsicum etc (optional)
- 2 tomatoes, sliced or handful cherry tomatoes, halved
- Handful grated tasty cheese
- Green salad, to serve
1 Place the eggs in a bowl with a splash of milk and season with salt and pepper. Beat together and set aside.
2 Heat some oil or melt some butter in a large frypan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for a couple of minutes, then add the silverbeet and cook, stirring, until soft.
3 Preheat the grill. Reduce heat to medium and add the egg mixture. Cook for about 3 minutes, then add the goat’s cheese and any other ingredients you want to add, if using.
4 Top with the tomatoes. Once the frittata is starting to gel on the sides and pulling away from the pan a little bit, you will know it’s time to add the tasty cheese and pop it under the preheated grill.
5 Watch it carefully! The frittata should start to puff up and the grated cheese will go golden brown.
6 When it’s perfectly done, take it out and leave to cool a little before cutting it – if you cut it too soon, it will deflate like a soufflé. Serve it with a green salad.

Cooking 4 Change was released on August 26. Available from pottonandburton.co.nz/c4c or selected bookstores. RRP $49.99.

Press Release and Video: Lucy Lawless Speaks Out About Irlen Syndrome During Irlen Syndrome Awareness Week

Lucy has done a video for the Irlen Institute that they have posted on their youtube channel. You can also read the press release related to the video.

Lucy's son Judah and daughter Daisy both have Irlen's Syndrome (Daisy to a lesser degree than Judah). Recently Lucy wrote an article for the NZ Herald about Irlen's Syndrome. You can read it on the NZ Herald site.

    PRESS RELEASE

Actress Lucy Lawless Speaks Out About Irlen Syndrome During Irlen Syndrome Awareness Week

Global Activities and Events Planned for October 20-24, 2014

LONG BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - October 20, 2014) - The Irlen Institute is proud to mark the start of Irlen Syndrome Awareness Week (ISAW), taking place from October 20-24. Irlen Syndrome is a visual processing disorder that affects 15% of the general population, 50% of individuals with reading and learning difficulties, and 30% of people with ADHD and autism. Irlen Syndrome has also been linked to traumatic brain injury in athletes and others.

Irlen Syndrome symptoms may include light sensitivity, particularly bright or fluorescent lighting, headaches or migraines, eye strain, distorted text or environment, and difficulty or discomfort reading. These symptoms are frequently misdiagnosed as ADHD and other afflictions, some involving medication. However, early and prompt identification can prevent a lifetime of academic struggles that can lead to school failure, damage to self-esteem, and unrealized potential. Although it is hereditary, it may be acquired, and many NFL football players and professional athletes have found Irlen's non-invasive solutions relieve their symptoms.

Founder Helen Irlen says, "Millions of people worldwide are suffering from Irlen Syndrome and not finding answers because they don't know this issue exists. Simply wearing specialized tinted filters can completely change how a person functions on a day-to-day basis. We have an obligation to educate the public about the problem and this easy solution."

Wearers of Irlen® spectral filters have reported wide-ranging improvements including better academic and reading performance, depth perception, attention and concentration, and reduction in physical symptoms like headaches, migraines and nausea.

During ISAW, celebrities will share their personal experiences with Irlen Syndrome. Lucy Lawless, star of Xena: Warrior Princess, will discuss the identification of her children and the important role of parents in having children screened (WATCH NOW). Bulletproof CEO Dave Asprey, a devoted Irlen® Spectral Filter wearer, has already led the charge, recommending Irlen®'s solutions to his biohacking community and featuring the company at his recentBulletproof conference.

Today's standard medical or educational tests do not screen for Irlen Syndrome, leaving a huge and problematic gap in personal care. To meet this need, the Irlen Institute offers screening via over 170 affiliated clinics and has trained over 10,000 screeners around the world. As part of Irlen Syndrome Awareness Week, complimentary pre-screenings are available at select locations around the world.

    HOW TO SUPPORT
The public is encouraged to support organizations working with Irlen® Institute to identify and care for sufferers. These organizations include the Learning Research Association, theSemper Fi Fund, which focuses on the needs of U.S. Armed Forces and their families (donations may be earmarked for Irlen® care), ABC For Reading and Reading By Colour in the UK. A full list is available on the Irlen® website.

    ABOUT THE IRLEN® INSTITUTE
The Irlen® Institute is dedicated to identifying and helping individuals suffering from visual processing disorder, or Irlen Syndrome. Irlen® offers a range of research-supported solutions for sufferers, using proprietary color technology to immediately improve visual perception. Helen Irlen and the Irlen® Method have been featured in 60 Minutes, Good Morning America, BBC, ABC Worldwide News with Peter Jennings, NBC News, National Geographic and numerous tv shows around the world. Today, more than 170 Irlen®-affiliated clinics and thousands of certified screeners are available to identify Irlen Syndrome worldwide. nzherald1The following article appeared in the New Zealand Herald on 07 September 2014. Lucy attended the Child Poverty Action Group March to raise awareness about Child Poverty. She also spoke at the event.

    LAWLESS SLAMS POVERTY

    NZ Herald (Print Edition)
    07 September 2014

Lucy Lawless added some star power to a march raising awareness about child poverty. Alongside more than 1000 others — including community leaders, politicians and teachers — she marched through central Auckland yesterday during the Child Poverty Action Group’s hikoi.

Lawless told the gathering: “I’m really concerned that the only growth going on in New Zealand is the growth of this underclass of hungry children, who become lacklustre students, who grow up and become disenfranchised, angry grown-ups.’’

She said middle-class New Zealand had to realise child poverty was a serious problem.

and there were some tweets from the march:
