Lucy Concert Report and Pictures!

Update!

I'm up...and it's a gorgeous day in LA, the sun appears to be shining...:) Here's some more pics and if you think these pics are hot...well you should have heard the noise last night. It was ELECTRIC and
downright amazing...man that was a great night!

Have I mentioned that Lucy was on FIRE last night? :) Damn that woman can sure put on a show - her energy was something to behold!

Check these out and yes it does look like Lucy was being blindfolded and yes that is what happened....LOL! What an awesome show!

Hey Guys!

Just back from the concert and I'm SPEECHLESS. Utterly speechless but
I have to find the words because you can't all read my mind :)

Lucy was on FIRE! That concert had to be the most energetic,, lusty 2 hours I have ever attended in any concert. Lucy's voice was so strong and powerful, she sang, she danced and truly rocked the Roxy - not to mention her partner in crime Gloria :)

To top it off she sang Hallelejah and I didn't think she could top
what she did but she truly made my night all the more special.

Lucy's voice was just STUNNING. Very strong. Words cannot do the concert justice and I'm half trying to...the pictures will speak for themselves. Just added Christa's pics to get you all in the mood - check out the last page of the pics in particular...SIZZLE!

If you haven't boughta ticket to tomorrow's concert - GO AND GET ONE. You will not be disappointed - I can guarantee that!

Lucy gave 1000% tonight - truly a great performance.

Over and out!

MaryD
A happy little vegemite in LA...

Break Out The Breast Plates -- Xena's Back!

By  ALYSIA GRAY PAINTER Updated 9:26 AM PST, Wed, Jan 28, 2009

In light of the major Xena convention on the weekend of January 30-February 1, let us solemnly pause for a moment and reflect upon Xena, Warrior Princess.

First off, the beloved character of page and screen has "warrior princess" right after her name. Cool. Second, she wanders the countryside with her pal Gabrielle, fighting off various demons and hydras and other baddies that wish to do her -- and maybe all of civilization -- some serious damage.

There are many mythical characters she's chummy with, or is related to, or needs to unthrone or take to task over something, and the whole television series is one adventurous, thrilling romp through the mists of time. Oh, and the midriff-bearing outfits, the chakram she throws so deftly, the swords? Hello. A fan girl's (okay, and boy's) dream.

People loved it -- obsessed over it -- and still do; like "Star Trek," "Xena" is a show that can still fill up a big fan convention years after going off the air (this is actually the convention's 14th year -- impressive). And who and what will fans find at the starry convention? Ms. Xena herself, the fabulous Lucy Lawless (who is also performing two shows at the Roxy), plus Renee O'Connor (Gabrielle), and a host of actors from the series, including Hudson Leick, who played Callisto, the most delicious villainess on TV in the last few decades. In fact, Ms. Leick is leading a yoga workshop during the convention. Fantastic.

Other events during the weekend include a writers' workshop, a cabaret, a video competition, a "Xena"-based centerpiece contest, and, of course, costumes galore. We weren't joking about the breast plates. You still have yours in a back drawer somewhere, right? Better buff that baby up, pronto.

Lucy mention in Rob Tapert interview

American producer Rob Tapert talks to NZ On Screen about hearing that New Zealand was “an undiscovered production treasure” in a studio carpark and he discusses the internationally popular syndicated TV programmes that he’s brought here (Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules) that have helped realise that vision.

These productions were instrumental in building the skill base of the NZ cast and crew. Many NZ actors found fame through their characters, particularly Lucy Lawless (now married to Tapert) and Michael Hurst (Iolas in Hercules).

AfterEllen Hopes to Interview Lucy - Questions Wanted!

Question: I heard that Lucy Lawless will soon be doing a live show in Los Angeles. Can you tell us more? — Anonymous
Answer: Yes, it's true, and it looks to be pretty spectacular. The show, Welcome to the Pleasure Dome will be staged at The Roxy in Los Angeles this weekend, January 30-31, and tickets are still available.

While Lawless is perhaps best known for her television and film credits (Xena: Warrior Princess, Battlestar Galactica, Bitch Slap, and that priceless Stevie Nicks parody on Saturday Night Live), she's also an accomplished singer who has received rave reviews for her live shows.

[...] Bridget McManus and I are hoping to attend, and maybe even interview the divine Ms. Lawless for our show, You Can't Take Them Anywhere. If you want us to ask her anything in particular (except "Who killed Jenny?"), then let us know in your comments below.

Thanks to Barbara Davies for the info.

Lucy in Concert

Hey guys

I'm in LA and having a fabtabulous time - it's a bit rainy and if you're coming in for the convention and concerts - pack an umbrella! It's slightly soggy.  Now if you haven't bought tickets for Lucy concert I would say you're going to miss one hell of a concert.

Cat Crimins who is going to MC Lucy's concerts again has a bit of advice for you all that you might want to listen to:

I'm very excited about these Roxy shows. They are like nothing else I've ever seen Lucy do. Let's just say she knows her audience very well. And I would also say she is giving them a real treat. The Roxy might need to mop up after the show.

-

If you're going to the concerts - We KNOW Lucy gives 100% and you know you're going to have a great time! Check out her site with the rehearsal clips and that will give you a taste of what's to come! If you're vacillating and not sure if you want to attend? Come on now! Seriously it's gonna be MEGA cool!

Go, buy tickets, enjoy and have a FABTABULOUS time!

Later!

Lucy & Zoe mentions, photos in Angel of Death article

The ass-kicker who will make Angel of Death a Web phenom

"Stuntwoman-turned-actress Zoe Bell might just be America's answer to Michelle Yeoh. At least that's what comic writer Ed Brubaker thinks after viewing footage of Bell's work on their Web project for Sony's Crackle.com, Angel of Death. "She's a complete natural," Brubaker told SCI FI Wire in an exclusive interview. "She's going to be a huge movie star. The camera loves her, and she can beat the s--t out of everybody."

The Lucy Lawless cameo looks like a lot of fun.

Brubaker: That was great, writing a role for Lucy Lawless. That was Paul's suggestion, that I write a role for her. We never thought we would actually get her. We didn't tell her it was for Zoe before she signed on. It's a little easter egg for the Xena fanbase. She brought a Southern accent to the character and just had fun with it.

When I heard that they got Ted Raimi and Lucy Lawless, I was like, "Oh, man, we should try to get Bruce Campbell!" And everybody was like, "No. That's a little too far.'" [Laughs.]

Another L Word Review: Where the Girls are on TV

Where the Girls are on TV: Jorja Fox, Jessica Capshaw, Kate Moennig Finales and Fun Bags by Lauren Incognito | Article Date: 01/20/2009 1:16 PM

<snipped>The long awaited return of the L Word came back with less of a bang than I had expected. The iconic Lucy Lawless, who inspired millions of lesbian Xena fans to get out there and kick some ass, shelved her killer chakrams and Gabrielle for a spin as the detective assigned to the Jenny Schecter (Mia Kirshner) murder.

Lawless was barely given any on screen time and it was odd to see her sans a young, nubile girl dressed in a bearskin mini skirt, but it was still a treat to see her suited up and packing a piece.

Personally, I'd take a moment of screen time with Lawless than an hour of Shane's (Katherine Moennig) philandering. [...] We'll get to see more of Lawless next week, as she begins to piece together Jenny's murder. <snipped> | Thanks to Barbara Davies for the info.

Lucy Pleasuredome Concert Press Release

Buckle Up, as Lucy Lawless, Television's Xena: Warrior Princess, Returns to Los Angeles with Concert Filled with Sex, Drugs, Temptation and Redemption!

(Los Angeles, CA …January 19, 2009) Following sold out performances in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and London, actress Lucy Lawless will return to Los Angeles to bring down the house with her latest show “The Pleasuredome." The concert is scheduled for two performances, Friday and Saturday, January 30 and 31, at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood.

This show is based on a screenplay set in the time when the music group Frankie Goes to Hollywood ruled the airwaves as well as everyone’s T-shirts. “This post-disco period was epitomized by high times in low places,” says Lawless. “Where disco was a sparkly diversion from the humdrum. The era I grew up in fully acknowledged, even celebrated, its own dark side.”

To tell the story, Lawless has chosen an eclectic mix of songs from top artists from the great Patty Smith, harbinger of it all, Eurythmics, Soft Cell and Cyndi Lauper to Garbage, Marilyn Manson and Jet.

“The Pleasuredome” brings the audience into a world of sex, drugs, temptation and redemption, about which, Lawless says,"I don't know why, but I do 'Bad-Girl' really well." She further states, "My fans always enjoy a tale of redemption...with a heapin' helpin' of Wickedness along the way."

Joe LoDuca, Emmy Award winning composer of Xena: Warrior Princess, has helped the New Zealand born star put together a remarkable band.  The show will also feature actor/singer Laura Sperrazza.

Lucy Lawless is best known for her role as Xena in the hit series Xena: Warrior Princess. Recently she appeared in the Disney blockbuster comedy Bedtime Stories, has a recurring role on SCI FI Channel’s Battlestar Galatica, and has done a guest appearance on Showtime’s The L Word. Lawless also took second place on the Fox competition series Celebrity Duets where she performed with musical icons Smokey Robinson and Dionne Warwick.

Tickets for the Los Angles show are $59, mature audience recommended.  The Roxy Theatre is located at 9009 West Sunset Blvd.  Doors will open at 7:00 PM, concert starts at 8:00 PM. For complete information go to www.lucyconcert.com

Strong Women Steer Battlestar Galactica's Final Voyage

Read Hugh Hart's article about how "Strong Women Steer Battlestar Galactica's Final Voyage". Lucy is mentioned among what is possibly th best ensemble on TV yet.

"Other strong women on the show include [...] Lucy Lawless, on board as rebel Cylon commander D'Anna Biers (aka Number Three).

In her role, Lawless adds a fearsome chapter to her action babe resume. After helping to create the female ass-kicker archetype with her mid-'90s TV series Xena: Warrior Princess, Lawless emerged last season from deep-freeze mode. Now that she's been "unboxed," she puts out a don't-mess-with-me vibe that brooks no challenge."

Lucy mentions in Bob Trebor, Bruce interviews

Bob Trebor interview Lucy mention | From Stars of David - January 15, 2009 - Michael Elkin, Arts & Entertainment Editor | "Northeast native son Robert Trebor is one of the special guests at this month's "Xena Convention" -- ask who Xena is and "Stars" will sic Lucy Lawless on ya -- out L.A. way. Sure, friends and family knew Bob early on as Robert Schenkman but those in the know really know him as one of the stalwart stars of the much-missed "Xena: Warrior Princess," or as they called him in that TV wonk of warlords: Salmoneus. (No, he didn't catch it from an undercooked character.)"  Many thanks to Barbara Davies for the info.

Interview: Bruce Campbell- January 13, 2009 | Posted by tvmadman in Interview. | Bruce Campbell provided the world with a interview last week, and he teased all of us about the upcoming season of USA’s awesomely thrilling Burn Notice (Thursdays at 9/8c) starting January 22nd. Here is the interview….

<snipped>J. Jacobs: Also, like you said, for traditional characters you were talking about Fiona, there are a lot of really tough women in this show, like Trisha’s character.

B. Campbell: Yes, these are mostly, they’re ball busters, these women, and I think that’s fun.  Why not have strong characters, because honestly, that’s how you get good actresses to come work on the show. We’ve had Lucy Lawless and that was really fun, and I knew that we could get her because they could come up with a good character for her. So I’m glad that worked out.  Yeah, it’s fun.  If you have strong male characters, you better have strong female characters.

Angel Of Death Press Release

STUDIO CITY, Calif., Jan. 15 CA-Crackle.com
Special Programming Event First of 2009

STUDIO CITY, Calif., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The highly anticipated action-packed online series "Angel of Death," starring Zoe Bell (Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof") and Lucy Lawless ("Xena: Warrior Princess," "Battlestar Galactica") is set to premiere as a special programming event on Monday, March 2, 2009 on Crackle.com, Sony Pictures Entertainment's online video network. The announcement was made today by Eric Berger, senior vice president, digital networks for Sony Pictures Television, at Crackle's Television Critic's Association (TCA) luncheon.

Crackle.com will air the first of 10 episodes of "Angel of Death" starting March 2nd.  A new 8-10 minute long episode will be available each weekday through March 13th.  Together with new footage, the series will be released in its entirety on DVD as a full length feature, after its online broadcast.

"We're thrilled that 'Angel of Death' will kick-off our special event programming in 2009," said Eric Berger.  "Ed Brubaker is a master storyteller whose award-winning comic book experience is a natural fit. We're certain that audiences will be riveted by Zoe Bell, Lucy Lawless, Doug Jones and the rest of the cast as they bring Ed's work to life."

"Angel of Death," is an action packed thriller about a remorseless assassin, Eve (Zoe Bell), employed by a ruthless crime family. After suffering a severe head trauma while on the job, she begins to hallucinate and becomes haunted by her victims. As a result of her injury, Eve is driven to seek revenge on those who ordered the hits in the first place -- her mob employers.

In addition to Bell and Lawless, the cast includes Doug Jones ("Pan's Labyrinth," "4: Rise of the Silver Surfer") as Dr. Rankin; Vail Bloom ("The Young and the Restless") as Regina Downes; Ted Raimi ("Xena: Warrior Princess") as Jed Norton; Brian Poth ("CSI: Miami") as Graham; Justin Huen ("Weeds") as Franklin; and Jake Abel ("Cold Case") as Cameron Downes.

ANGEL OF DEATH reunites Lucy Lawless, Ted Raimi, and Zoe Bell - who all worked together on "Xena: Warrior Princess."  Bell was Lawless's stunt-double on the long-running series.

While developing the story about a cold-blooded killer growing a conscience, Brubaker's original idea for the series was a hitman afflicted with brain cancer, but then remembered watching a scene in an old PBS documentary series where a patient walked into the ER with a hunting knife stabbed right through his skull, and drew inspiration from that for Eve's head injury.  ANGEL OF DEATH is Brubaker's first online series.

"Angel of Death" was created and written by famed Eisner Award-winning comic-book mastermind Ed Brubaker ("Captain America," "Criminal," "Daredevil") and directed by Paul Etheredge ("Buried Alive," "Hellbent"). The series is a White Rock Lake Production being produced by John Norris ("Buried Alive"), and is being distributed by Sony Pictures Television.

Lucy Mentions: Angel of Death, The L Word...

Angel of Death - LA Times Blog

You can see a trailer for "Angel of Death" at the bottom of this post. "Angel" stars stuntwoman-turned-actress Zoe Bell ("Death Proof") as a ruthless killer who gets a big ol' knife jabbed into her brain and lives (it does happen, folks) and then finds that things aren't quiet the same in her life. For one thing, the cranial calamity has stirred something in her resembling a conscience, which is a nettlesome thing when you earn money for being a stone-cold killer. "Angel" also features Doug Jones (now known for so many roles, among them Abe Sapien in the "Hellboy" films) and Lucy Lawless (she of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Xena: Warrior Princess" fame).

Lucy donated Artwork - The Southland Times

and Lucy Lawless drew something vertical on the same theme, reflecting her work in The Vagina Monologues. Oh, and Kylie sends her love.

Review of the L Word Premiere - PioneerLocal.com

The premiere of season six of Showtime's "The L Word" (9/8 C Jan. 18) starts off without pulling any punches. A police detective, Sgt. Marybeth Duffy (Lucy Lawless) shows up at Bette's house where a group of the friends are sitting in the living room, looking stunned. A few minutes later, a body is wheeled past on a stretcher -- and it's Jenny. (Since Showtime has promoted that news everywhere, it doesn't seem like a spoiler.)

When their new guardians forbid 16-year-old Andi (Roberts) and her younger brother, Bruce (Austin) to have a pet, Andi has to use her quick wit to help find a new home for their dog, Friday. The resourceful kids stumble upon an abandoned hotel and using Bruce's talents as a mechanical genius, transform it into a magical dog-paradise for Friday - and eventually for

New Lucy Interview - Lucy's Big Adventure

The following interview was posted on the NZ Herald site and interviews Lucy about her role on Bedtime Stories. It's the same interview that was posted recent GayDarNation site

New Zealander Lucy Lawless became an international television icon in the 1990s as the apparently fearless star of cult hit Xena: Warrior Princess. The part seemed tailor-made for the athletic actress, who'd originally intended to be an opera singer (until she discovered that opera singers follow a strict diet and can't stay out all night). Yet after 134 episodes Lawless called it a day and has spent most of the last few years raising her three children: Daisy, 19; Julius, 9; and Judah, 6. "Now my kids are relinquishing me and I'm ready to go back to work," Lawless says with a laugh.

Lucy's New Bio on Official Site

I absolutely love these bios that Lucy writes - this is the first time Lucy has written a bio for her own site but normally you would find them in various program guides for various events like REAF, STAGE or Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. They are cute, witty and add an insight to what Lucy considers important milestones in her career. I find them absolutley fascinating because what the fans may consider an important role may not have the same significance to Lucy. Fascinating.
