Starship Annual Appeal-2001

Raising A Smile

Susanna Wilson has just turned nine with a whole lot to celebrate. Just last month she had a brain tumour removed and looks set to celebrate many more birthdays ahead. Currently, patients like Susanna have to transfer to an adjoining adult hospital for neurosurgery, as the Starship National Children's Hospital does not have it's own specialised equipment. Starship Foundation board trustee, Lucy Lawless, and star of 'Xena-Warrior Princess' has experienced first hand the series of corridors and tunnels that young patients must use to get from Starship to Auckland Hospital. It can be a frightening experience for a child already apprehensive. We aim to raise $2.5 million for equipment this year, so patients like Susanna can stay within the Starship's child-focused environment for neurosurgery. To promote this fundraising project, Lucy is appearing in the Starship Foundation's Annual Appeal advertising campaign screening throughout July on New Zealand television. But we also need help from further afield. We hope to raise $2.5 million by the end of the year when Starship celebrates its 10th birthday. Can you help?
