Xena - Warrior Princess star - and Starship Foundation Board Trustee Lucy Lawless became the first Mercury
Energy customer to support a new scheme to help raise more funds for equipment at Starship Children’s
Hospital.

The Star Supporters’ Club, which gives Mercury customers an opportunity to donate each month to the Starship
Foundation, was launched at a special function attended by hospital patients and Mercury and Starship officials in
May.

The club aims to raise $200,000 to buy a new mobile image intensifier, a specialised x-ray machine, to replace an
ageing one. The specialised x-ray machine provides immediate, detailed pictures on computer-type screens
help surgeons carry out their work with greater precision. It also enables surgeons to perform operations through tiny
incisions, making treatment and healing faster and less stressful for children.

Mercury Energy General Manager Consumer Markets Mark Carter formation of the Starship Supporters’ Club follows on from an earlier successful customer donation campaign in 2002 that saw $200,000 raised to provide the hospital with
new, life-saving heart and lung bypass machine.

Mercury Energy’s contribution is to administer the scheme so that the total amount of customers’ donations go to Starship without administration costs. Customers join the club by donating $2 or each month through their power
account. The donations are on of Mercury’s ongoing commitment to Starship as a major long-term sponsor.
