Stadium of Fire Event

Daily Herald
Utah, USA

1 June 2005

Fired Up: The Stadium of Fire turns 25 on July 2, and event organizers have pulled out all the stops to assemble an unforgettable night of world-class entertainment.

The headlining acts are country supergroup Lonestar and squeaky-clean singer Mandy Moore.

The Lonestar fellas recently achieved an important career milestone when their four-hanky hit song "I'm Already There" was played on adult contemporary radio for the 96 jillionth time, surpassing the record of 95,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 plays set by "MMMBop" by Hanson in 1998.

As for Moore, she was a minister's daughter in her first big film role, attended a Catholic high school in real life and dated The Guy Who Dated Lindsay Lohan before he dated Lindsay Lohan.

That might be more than enough wham-bam glamour for some folks, but the Freedom Festival has spared no expense.

Lavell Edwards Stadium will practically be Hollywood East on July 2, what with "Xena: Warrior Princess" star Lucy Lawless, grand-old dame Debbie Reynolds ("Singin' in the Rain") and Lou Diamond Phillips in attendance.

Xena is Xena, and Debbie Reynolds is Princess Leia's (Carrie Fisher's, yo) mom, so it's obvious why they were invited.

Lou Diamond Phillips ... er, well, he has three names (just like Kool Moe Dee), and he played a hooker called Wanda in "Hollywood Homicide," that crappy Harrison Ford cop comedy that came out a couple of years ago. You say, "Huh?" I say let freedom ring.

There's already plenty of singing on the program, so maybe the actors will be present just to smile and wave.

As long as they're all here at once, I say we bring back Larry King and Sean Hannity, pass out capes and tights and put everyone into a pro-wrestling-style steel cage.

Last person standing gets a return engagement for Stadium of Fire 2006. I say the smart money's on Phillips -- unless "Bats II" is on the fast track, he'll be needing the income.
