The two-disc collection contains a muscular amount of bonus features including never-before-seen featurettes, bloopers and behind-the-scenes footage (including a set tour with star Lucy Lawless).

The Blu-ray is even mightier with extended episodes, audio commentary on all six episodes and a mind-blowing battlesequence in 3D – a first for a TV on Blu-Ray™ release!SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA premiered January 21, 2011 on STARZ and delivered record ratings for the network. With each new episode, the series continued to gain devoted viewers. Executive produced by Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, Joshua Donen and Steven S. DeKnight, this exhilarating season follows Gannicus, the charismatic gladiator aspiring to become Champion of Capua and of the House of Batiatus. With political ambitions and poised to overthrow his father and take control of the House, a young Batiatus will freely betray anyone to ensure his gladiators are in the highest demand. With his loyal and calculating wife Lucretia by his side, they will stop at nothing to deceive the masses.

Joining returning stars, John Hannah as Batiatus, Peter Mensah as Oenomaus and Lucy Lawless as Lucretia, are new cast members Dustin Clare as Gannicus, Jaime Murray as Gaia and Marisa Ramirez as Melitta.

With content too hot for cable TV, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deluxe packaging and an amazing 3D battle scene from the final episode, SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA is sure to have fans of the show cheering, while capturing the attention of all those uninitiated into the world of Spartacus – thumbs up, indeed!

Lucy Mention in Spartacus Vengeance Chron Blog 22 July 2011

Chron.com has an interesting article about the Spartacus Comic Con press roundtable event which they liked to speed dating - you have 10 minutes to interview the actor and then another is brought in, sits down and then rinse and repeat!

They wrote the following about Lucy:

ImageLucy Lawless was gorgeous and funny and came to the table with incredible energy. You always knew what table she was at by the frequent bursts of laughter. At a wedding reception, she’s totally the ring leader at the rowdy table. She noted that the fact that Lucretia is back for Season 2 is all thanks to the fans. Two different endings were shot during the finale to allow the production the flexibility to make that “posthumous” choice. She didn’t lobby to come back, trusting that Steven would do what’s right for the show – and saying that he likes to mess with the audience’s mind. Lucretia has “a lot of payback to dish out.” But she also has to find a way to survive after losing everything. There will be romance for her, if you can call it that. “It’s all about power. She continues to use sex as a weapon.” Touching on some of her past roles, she said she doesn’t miss stunt work at all. She hated all of the fighting she had to do during Xena. She also enjoys the more colorful and organic world of ancient Rome compared to the cold and dark of deep space. “Don’t go to space. If you have the chance don’t do it. It’s not as fun as you think.”

Lucy Lawless at Spartacus Comic Con Panel Roudup for Lucretia

Here is the rundown on what Lucy had to say on the panel from the live tweeting. What did we learn about Lucretia Season 2 that we didn't know before? This is taken from the tweetathon at @ausxip on twitter which was done earlier in the day. It's a tidy version!

Compiled by MaryD

Season 2:

  • Lucretia is out for vengeance
  • Lucretia and Ilithyia's relationship goes places we don't know where...interesting
  • "[Lucretia] is absolutely bereft. She lost her husband" but she'll work to a "platform of power

Lucy quotes from Panel

  • Lawless not like Lucretia: "I do it to experience a parallel existence safely, w/o consequence"
  • Lucy & Lucretia have in common: "This is who I would be & had to say these things"
  • Lucy loved the scifi and will keep doing at.
  • Lucy: "I like extreme worlds. I like to utilize every part of me" Hoots "Oh shutup!"
  • Lucy Lawless says the relationship between Lucretia & Illythia will take many twists and turns in season 2.
  • Lucy: Lucretia and Ilysia's realtionship goes places you can't guess
  • The eternal love affair between Lucy Lawless and comic-con continues as fans go wild for the star.
  • Lucy: Asher is back "He's totally there, like laugh out loud brilliant"
  • Lawless also promises more "hot beefcake" for us this season. Well, Lucretia would know ...
  • Lucy: Whole lotta new hot beefcake in S2 for fans
  • Where's Doctore? Getting whipped ... Lawless: "Yes, but he deserved it"
  • Fan says Doctore was getting whipped in preview. Lucy: I know but her deserved it.
  • Gannicus has been "banging chicks." Hey, it's gannicus. What else do you expect?
  • And just like that, the conversation turns to orgies and porridge. Thanks Manu and Lucy!
  • Lawless talks about shtupping people on the show
  • Lucy: Lucretia smells a little offShe's lost her hubby, presumably her child. "Crawl my way ba…...
  • Lawless: "[Lucretia] is absolutely bereft. She lost her husband" but she'll work to a "platform of power"
  • DeKnight: "Spartacus isn't the only one out for vengeance" (looks at Lucy Lawless) Lucretia lives!
  • says she enters into a "kind of holy matrimony with someone... not saying who" this season on

TV’s toughest broads - Xena Warrior Princess - MSN Entertainment

Image

MSN Entertainment looks at TV’s toughest broads
Lucy Lawless, "Xena: Warrior Princess"

When "Xena: Warrior Princess" premiered as a "Hercules" spin-off, nobody could have guessed that its Amazonian protagonist would become a late 20th Century feminist icon. But the mix of campiness and sweetness that defined Lawless' performance as the shrieking, sword-wielding heroine was ultimately potent stuff. If a character's power can be measured in the number of women who've proudly dressed up in her costume for Halloween, Xena ranks among the mightiest in any medium.

Lucy's Comic Con Tips and Advice! - Hollywood Reporter

lucy.pngThe Hollywood Reporter has an article on Hollywood Shares Comic-Con Tales, Trivia and Tips

The geek convention regulars and newbies dish on their dream panels, most memorable fans and best disguises. Comic-Con kicked off in San Diego on Thursday, where fanboys and Hollywood collide. This year, the Con features highlights from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1, The Amazing Spiderman, Game of Thrones, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and more.

In the days leading up to the annual convention, The Hollywood Reporter caught up with a bevvy of Comic-Con veterans and rookies to talk "What-Ifs."

Lucy Lawless:

MY FAVORITE COMIC-CON MEMORY IS ...

"Jell-O wrestling would be awesome. I don't think they've done that yet. I'd like to see the female Expendables. Anything with Sigourney Weaver; I think she'd win any fight. Or Kevin Smith up against Jon Favreau. Now that would be a panel!"
-- Lucy Lawless, actress, Spartacus, Xena: Warrior Princess

QUESTION BEST AVOIDED ON A PANEL IS ...

"Don't ask us to come down and kiss your kids. Don't ask us for a hug. Stop that -- I'm all out of hugs. And no dates; I'm not available for dates. And please stop getting full-color tattoos of Xena and her horse on your back."
-- Lawless

HAVE YOU EVER DRESSED IN COSTUME TO AVOID FANS?

"Sam Raimi gave me a Zorro mask and a red bandana once, and I walked the convention floor for about 45 minutes. A couple people recognized me, but mostly they don't even look."
-- Lawless

Spartacus Blood & Arena For The Superstar Gladiator - IL Tempo Nazionale 19 July 2011

Image

The following article appeared in IL Tempo - Nazionale newspaper on 19 July 2011 in Italian. Barbara Bruno graciously took the time to translate the article.

The series directed by Zac Snyder and produced by Sam Raimi will tell the origins in six episode from August 25.

Spartacus: Blood and Arena for the superstar gladiator.

By Dina D'Isa

It's coming on Sky 1(from August 25 in six episodes) the prequel: Spartacus Gods of The Arena, six episodes centered on the deeds of the ambitious Batiatus, husband of the beautiful Lucretia(John Hannah), centered on the previous years before his rise as the notorious master of Capua.

In the background it appears again the statuary Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, before the Welsh Actor was forced to leave the set to cure a rare form of Lynphoma. But in the true new second season, that should air beginning 2012, the young star will pass the baton to the apollonian Liam McIntyre.

In the prequel the gladiators will keep battling on, while Batiatus, (guru of the capuan school of gladiators where Spartacus will go) will flounder between the political imbalances of Capua and the intemperances of the instictive Gannicus, often more dedicated to the plaisures of the Ludus than following with respect his master.

Once again, the series dusts off the historical peplum to revisit Ancient Rome in a mix of cinema, comic book style, pulp, explicit sex and lots of blood.

The series, directed by Zac Snyder(I don't think it is accurate) (Director of the unforgettable 300) and produced by Sam Raimi(Directors of the 3 Spiderman Movies), is been a huge success in more than 80 countries worldwide and the new prequel is been just shown to The Ischia Global Film Festival.

The famous slave, become the most famous gladiator of Rome, and the universal simbol of every indestructible people that from the mud resurrect as heroes, has an incredible visual impact, to whom is very difficult to resist.

The civil wars of Appiano of Alessandria, the lives of Pompeii and Crassus, or of Plutarc, who at the thracian slave that in 75 BC was capable of leading an important slave revolt, have dedicated extraordinary pages, in the series they begun only a launching point.

Or better, a narrative pretext to commemorate the excesses and provocations, between blood and sands, of the Ludus of Capua, animated by the spectacular technology of the third millenium.

Love and betrayal, sex and friendship, political intrigues and feral plots, are the humus of the main characters, almost all the same as the original series. Lucy Lawless stars as Lucretia, manipulative and unconventional roman woman; Manu Bennet as Crixus, while Leslie-Ann Brandt, is the fascinating Naevia. And there is a new entry: Jamie Murray as Gaia, long friend of Lucretia, that brings in Capua some vices and leisures not really moral.

Dustin Clare plays Gannicus, the first gladiator that becomes the first champion of the Ludus and whose fame of invincible fighter goes hand in hand with the one of a rebel man and vicious, lover of women and wine.

The series is a funny and compelling mix between the legends of the Ancient Rome and the innovations of a visionary pop culture: "The themes are suitable for adult viewers, those one who don't get easily shocked, but instead find that some choices make the series more realistic and complex." Raimi recently explained.

The Comic Book style review of this series make the scenes of sex and blood secondary compared to the plot, the rebirth of Spartacus and the esciting drama: he fights in the arena as a true gladiator not caring about his own life, and in his head just one mission: Win!

EW Submit Your Questions to Lucy for EW Interview at Comic Con

Image

EW.com will be interviewing Lucy and they are asking fans to submit their questions!

PopWatch has always been an established safe house for nerds/geeks/dorks/pop culture misfits. And while we always encourage you to be yourself, this time, I’m really asking you to let your geek flag fly.

As part of our big Comic-Con plans, we’re sitting down with Spartacus‘ fearless (and frisky) Lucrecia — i.e. Lucy Lawless — and are soliciting your burning questions. Anything will go (as long as we keep it clean, people). Here are some sample questions to get you started:

– Which gladiator would Lucrecia most likely get busy with? Russell Crowe’s Maximus (Writer’s note: That sounds hot), Marcus Aquila (Channing Tatum in The Eagle) or Charlton Heston’s Judah Ben-Hur?
– Have you ever done the Xena battle cry while you were alone?
– Did you keep the Xena skirt?

EW Releases Full Season 2 Lucretia Promo Pic

Image

I know this is wrong on so many levels but the prospect of seeing Lucy play Lucretia in full mad zone is just blowing my mind. EW released this image in the recent print version of the magazine and now they have printed the full promo pic which makes Lucretia look more loopy / sadder / madder. A part of me feels sorry for the woman and the other part relishes what is to happen. Lucy has been phenomenonal in this role and Season 2 looks to be an absolute corker!

Xena Episode Stills - Season 3 Episode 6 The Debt Part 1

Image

Updated the Xena Episode Stills gallery for Season 3 Episode 6 The Debt Part 1 (one of my all time favourite episodes) with three more episode stills from the episode

The Debt Part 1 - Season 3, Episode 6

Xena (Lucy Lawless) is betrayed when she journeys to the Kingdom of Chin to settle a debt from her dark past.

SCRIBES & SCROLLS:

Written by R.J. Stewart;
Edited by Robert Field;
Directed by Oley Sassone.

PASSING PARADE:

Jacqueline Kim (Lao Ma);
Marton Csokas (Borias);
Grant McFarland (Ming Tzu);
Daniel Sing (Older Ming Tien);
Daniel Lim (Younger Ming Tien).

STORY SO FAR:

Xena receives a message asking her to go to the Land of Chin to “make the green dragon (a young ruler called Ming Tien) small again”. Xena wants to leave Gabrielle behind and, to explain why, recounts her years spent with the warlord Borias (who fathered Solan). The pair plan to steal from the wealthy Chinese houses - but, in doing so, Xena meets a remarkable woman. In the present day, Xena heads off on her journey alone but is captured during her assassination attempt, thanks to intervention by Gabrielle who is opposed to Xena's mission.

DISCLAIMER:

No frock tarts were killed during the production of this motion picture although they wish they had been. (eh?!)

REWIND FOR:

The world’s only self-saddling horse, Argo (unless she sleeps in a saddle?) at the opening scene; the first ever game of tic tac toe (albeit yet to be perfected as the two-player version we know today!); the Great Wall of China’s first appearance 300 before it was actually built; an Indiana Jones ending for a showoff swordsman; note that the chess piece Ming Tien is holding when he is kidnapped by Xena is, aptly, a pawn; Xena promising Borias 5% of 50 horses. (You wouldn’t to be there when she hands over the remaining half of a horse); the underwater scene which reveals where Xena picked up CPR from in Is There A Doctor in the House; Xena’s jump from water level that beats all her old records (nice commando greasepaint by the way - er, explain again why you have to be nearly naked to kill someone?); the creepy ambience of the bird cage scene; the look between Gabrielle and Xena in the final moment.... ah, heck, rewind the whole thing...

QUOTABLE:

“Ok let’s forget the cryptic part.” - finally, someone (Gabrielle) demands clarification from the enigmatic Xena;

“I’m glad I could help you get a good deal on the things you need to commit a murder,” Gabrielle now probably wishing she hadn’t asked for the details.

“Kill ‘em all? That was obviously your answer to everything in those days.” Gabrielle works out why Xena doesn’t reminisce much.

“They say you’re a dangerous woman.” Lao Ma making polite chit chat with Xena.

“Fill yourself up with desire and see only illusion. Empty yourself of desire and understand the great mystery of things.” Lao Ma, showing she actually never really was one for small talk.

“I have been blessed or cursed with the ability to look at the souls of others. You don’t know it yet Xena; you are a remarkable woman.” Lao Ma rendering Xena speechless. Again.

“My lord, I would never hide what is yours.” Lao Ma to Ming Tzu. It’s not so much a great line as much as how it shows Lao Ma has used it to avoid telling a lie. It’s true, Xena never was Ming Tzu’s, even if she was caught by him. Clever line.

Xena Video - Xena Deleted Scene Season 4 Ep 9: Past Imperfect

ImageDeleted Scene from the Season 4 Episode 9 Past Imperfect

Season 4, Episode 9: Past Imperfect
In order to save a town from destruction, Xena must figure out who is copycatting her past evil deeds.

SCRIBES & SCROLLS: Written by Steven L. Sears; Edited by Robert Field; Directed by Garth Maxwell

PASSING PARADE: Marton Csokas (Borias); Catherine Boniface (Satrina); Craig Muller (Pasicus); Paul Gittins (Kaleipus); Mark Ferguson (Dagnine); John Manning (Oaklin).

STORY SO FAR: An enemy who seems to know Xena’s every move, recreates a battle from her past which brings up old and painful memories for the Warrior Princess. Meanwhile, Xena fears the prophesy of their death is at hand and tries to cottonwool Gabrielle.

DISCLAIMER: Borias’ goose was cooked during the production of this motion picture.

REWIND FOR: Supersonic cannonballs – they were going awfully fast in that long shot in Xena’s first vision… smart gal, inventing rocket fuel.

Satrina’s soldiers are part fish – they were under water way too long to be good for the health. Easily five minutes by my watch… but I guess that’s the advantages of living in an era which has yet to invent time.

The worst midwife in the business (see below – literally).

Yikes, Scary Xena Alert – watch those baby blues bug when she says: “Getting inside my head now?”… hey, I got chills. And yeah, I think Satrina well and truly got a clear picture of what was in Xena’s head.

The face of a woman in labor and pretending not to be, as Xena squeezes out her “crucify them” line.

QUOTABLE: “We’re going to need a lot of wood. When I’m done here there’ll be a line of crucified bodies leading from Corinth to the Caspian Sea and I will crucify them all.” Xena, who, if taken literally, seems not to understand that you can’t crucify an already crucified body… not much point really.

“When I saw Borias’s body I couldn’t believe he would come back for me and he loved me.” Awww, Xena, what’s not to love?…. killings, maimings, poor parental role models and treating your man like dirt, aside. Actually, she has a good point…

Lucretia Losing The Plot In Season 2?

How's this for some excellent detective work (or Olansamuelle just being an extreme nerd...it's pretty cool when she does that in addition to her excellent artwork).

While we were all wishiing Lucretia would get a hair brush and stop looking so shell shocked, Olansamuelle found something interesting.

Okay here is pic with the Lucretia and her funky hair AND a pic of Batiatus from Season 1...what do we have here? Hmm Lucretia is wearing Batiatus' clothes! No wonder the tunic is too big. Lucretia looks like she has lost the plot or losing it.

Join SDCC Insider for Spartacus News at Comic Con

SDCC Insider is a Starz employee who has a blog and is inviting fans to submit questions / requests for the Starz shows "Torchwood" and "Spartacus".

You can follow him on Twitter on @SDCC_Insider and his site is located here

So of course I'll be representing you, the fans, at the San Diego Comic Con. I am your mouthpiece. Your fly on the walls of Torchwood and Spartacus heaven. I will be at the panels, walking the floor, but a lot of the time I'll be actually at the Starz booth, #4045.

And if I can answer questions (hey, no spoilers folks) then I'll be happy to do so. But I'm also there to take requests. I want to help. What would you ask the stars of Starz original shows? What are you dying to ask Steven DeKnight or Jane Espenson? In fact, I hope to put your questions in front of the following very cool people (so start thinking and tweet them to me pronto; first come, first served).

TV's Most Interesting Characters - Lucy as Lucretia

Over at AfterElton, Brent has written an article on why are TV's most interesting characters so often the morally ambiguous ones. In amongst all the characters there is one we know quite well...

ImageThe totally gorgeous but conniving Lucretia. In my opinion Lucy's best role to date. Brent describes the character as:

Pretty deep, it turns out. Lucretia is played by Lucy Lawless, a big TV star, but that's surely not the only reason the producers are bringing her, unlike Batiatus, back for the second season: it's because she's so damn interesting.

New Zealand's top chefs and cooks have teamed up to produce a new cookbook in support of Starship Children's Hospital.

PURCHASE YOUR COPY OF COMFORT, FOOD FOR SHARING NOW FOR JUST $45 + DELIVERY

Comfort: Food for Sharing is on sale now and is bursting with great meals and baking by the New Zealand Guild of Food Writers.  All royalties from book sales will go towards the rebuild of Starship's Neuroservices and Medical Specialties wards.  Conditions treated on these wards include brain tumours, metabolic and genetic disorders including Cystic Fibrosis, trauma and suspected child abuse injuries, respiratory illnesses and infectious diseases.

"At the heart of this book is the fine Kiwi tradition of lending a helping hand by cooking a meal for, or giving the gift of food to, someone in need," says Gretchen Hawkesby, Chair of the Friends of Starship. "In these instances, not only are the meals you cook hugely appreciated by the family in need, but it is also enormously rewarding for you as the cook; you are providing something that is prepared with love, but also has the practical benefit of keeping the family routine ticking over without any more upheaval than is already necessary."

Comfort includes lots of tasty one-pot meals such as casseroles, pasta dishes, pies, quiches, soups, meatloaves, risottos, paella, curries and oven-bakes, as well as slices, cakes and other baking.

"The recipes in Comfort, whether they are baked goodies, simple soups or fabulous family feasts, have been specially chosen so that they can be prepared ahead, are easily transportable and are totally delicious," says Lauraine Jacobs, President of New Zealand Guild of Food Writers and editor of Comfort. "The nicest thing any one can do is cook for someone who needs help and support in difficult times. The New Zealand Guild of Food Writers is proud to have supported the Starship Foundation in this wonderful project. And I can guarantee every recipe will be truly appreciated."

The 145 recipes in the book were contributed by the likes of Jo Seagar, Allyson Gofton, Al Brown, Tui Flower, Mark McDonough, Ray McVinnie, Peta Mathias, Annabelle White, Catherine Bell and many others.  The stunning food and lifestyle photography is by Nick Tresidder, and includes shots of the children of Friends of Starship volunteers and supporters.

"We hope New Zealanders across the country purchase this book and cook meals from it in the knowledge that while it may provide warmth and comfort to their own family and friends, they have also provided comfort to the lives of young children and their families at Starship," says Gretchen.

Lucy mentioned on an Emmy "Who Should Be" Nominated List

Image634433716257500000

Lucy is mentioned by AOLTV.com's Maureen Ryan in her column on the upcoming Emmy nominations, " My Emmy Predictions:Who Will Be Nominated,Who Should Be".

Lucy is on her "Should Be" list:

Best Actress in a Drama

Lucy Lawless, 'Spartacus: Gods of the Arena'
Connie Britton, 'Friday Night Lights'
Julianna Margulies, 'The Good Wife'
Elisabeth Moss, 'Mad Men'
Emmy Rossum, 'Shameless'
Anna Torv, 'Fringe'

All these actresses gave sensational, subtle performances, and if you were ever a 'Spartacus' doubter, Lawless' work in the show's most recent season would put those doubts to rest forever. Sentimentally speaking, I'd love it if 'FNL's' Tami Taylor got a much-deserved win for the show's farewell season.
