AUSXIP Starship Auction - Authors and Artists Shout Out! Please Share

It's that time of year again when I put a call out to authors, artists and readers. Our annual AUSXIP Starship Charity Auction is fast approaching (way way too fast IMO). The 2015 AUSXIP Starship Charity Auction is dedicated to the show we love and to the Xenaverse which is one giant family.

Come join me in raising a lot of money for Starship in honour of the Warrior Princess and her Battling Bard!

Image

Since 2006 when we had our first Starship auction we have raised $115K+ which is pretty nifty. I know the Starship Foundation is so appreciative of this annual event. They have gone out of their way to help and support it. This annual event will be held once again on 21-27 March 2015.

As in previous years I am accepting donations of books and this year I'm going to make it easier by including ebooks into the mix. If you would like to donate your books (whichever flavour they are in), I'm more than happy to accept them!

In previous years we also had authors donate a character's name to the auction. That has been so successful where the winning bidder gets to name a character in an upcoming novel KG Macgregor has done this on a few occasions and other authors as well). So if you are an author and would like to donate a character for your next book, please and thank you!

If you would like to help other budding writers with some help with their writing or give them a helping hand etc etc - that too would be super. In a previous auctions we had Steven L. Sears and Katherine Fugate donate their time to look at and help a couple of script writers.

Are you an artist and would like to donate your work? Yes please and thank you!
Some ideas (other than donating your digital or physical art) would be to help a budding artist learn from you.

The goal is to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy organisation. I've gone to Starship a few times and they are an amazing group of people so it's a real pleasure to hold this auction for them.

So. Spread the word, donate your books, artwork or a fictional character or offer to help a budding author or artist with getting their work off the ground - I'm more than happy to accept your donation!

Thank you and please share my note with any groups you belong to and your friends. Let's spread the word and get ready for a 20th Anniversary Blast Off!

Email me for more information!

Lucy in Sleeping Beauty and her Winter Knight Review

by Marilyn Edwards

Anyone in Southern California who has not seen Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight has done themselves a disservice during the holidays. From beginning to end, it is a wonderful romp. Lucy, Ben Giroux (who plays Silly Billy) and David Engel (who plays Nanny Tickle) keep you in switches. The one-liners are marvelous, with Lucy getting one in about Gabrielle and the audience participation makes for a grand time.

The songs were not what I expected to hear. One Way or Another, The Eye of the Tiger, All of Me and Hero are just a few on them. The children dancing was fun to watch as they did modern as well as ballet.

If you are looking for a treat for Christmas, the play runs through Jan 4th. The website is http://www.pasadenaplayhouse.org/box-office/calendar.html.

Tickets are available by calling The Pasadena Playhouse at 626-356-7529, online 24 hours a day at www.PasadenaPlayhouse.org, or by visiting The Pasadena Playhouse Box Office, Tuesday - Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. during non-performance dates. On performance dates the Box Office is open Tuesday - Saturday from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets for SLEEPING BEAUTY and Her Winter Knight range from $34.00 - $74.00, with Premium Seating available for $125.00. Child single tickets are available for Rear Orchestra and Rear Mezzanine seating ranging from $24.00 - $64.00. Golden Tickets are available for an additional $50.00 each and are limited to 10 Golden Tickets per performance. A Golden Ticket allows the ticketholder (children only) a special on-stage experience during the production. Service and theatre restoration fees apply to all purchases. Group Sales (8 or more) are available by calling 626-921-1161.

Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight Reviews

Lucy has been getting some rave reviews in the media and twitter. Here’s a few of them. To find out more about Lucy’s role as Carabosse go to the AUSXIP Lucy Lawless Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight subsite

It can be great entertainment to watch good actors being intentionally, freely silly. This is one of those kinds of shows. There will be no depth, but considerable laughter. Look out for occasional ad libs, and for the comfort everyone has onstage. Lawless even gets in a sideways reference to her television sidekick (to considerable cheering from the audience).

Lawless has more fun than anyone else on stage, proving a delightfully vampy, punk rock Maleficent.

Source: LA Weekly

Some reviews are quite funny in the sense they just figured out Lucy can sing – like this one:

And who knew Xena Warrior Princess could sing! Lawless wails on Debbie Harry’s “One Way or Another” like a true ‘80s punk rocker.

Source: Musicals In LA

In this retelling of the classic fairy tale, when she is born Aurora is cursed by angry fairy, Carabosse, played by a thoroughly convincing Lucy Lawless (she does bad so good).

The revelation here was Lucy Lawless! We were shocked at how funny she was as the villainess!!! I never saw Xena: Warrior Princess, but I had a distinct impression of her from doing that show. And it was not as a hilarious version of Malificent! She had us guffawing!

Counties Manukau special squad keeps in touch with recidivist child sex offenders, to everyone’s advantage.

Last week I followed Detectives George Grove and Kim Matthews as they did their rounds, visiting some of the 80 medium and high-risk child sex offenders living in South Auckland.

It's part of an initiative called Operation Guardian designed to help the Corrections Department who manage parolees - and for police to monitor and manage the offenders longer term.

The Code Season 2 Gets Green Light for 2015

lucythecode.png

Looks like we are in for another fantastic season of The Code. Lucy has NOT been confirmed as reprising her role as Alex Wisham as yet (hopefully it does happen and we get to see her relationship with Ned Banks blossom). To catch up all the news and multimedia about Lucy's role on The Code (Season 1) go to the AUSXIP Lucy Lawless The Code subsite

The Sydney Morning Herald reported about Season 2:

ABC TV will deliver fans a second season of the six-part series centered around a political conspiracy that engulfs two brothers: a journalist and a computer hacker.

Ned and Jesse Banks have not escaped the political storm sparked by the conclusion of season one and will return to the screen among more dark, panoramic shots of the capital.
Serious charges will see the pair return to entrap the elusive Jan Parke - the host of an on-line bazaar of illegal weapons, drugs and dangerous ideas.
