The Xena Reboot is DEAD - My Thoughts On Replacing The Magic

xena-gabrielle-lovewins

The Xena Reboot has been officially killed off. For now. There could be two reactions to this news.

1. YEAY! You can't have Xena and Gabrielle be played by anyone other than Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor

2. Oh what?! Come on we want a Xena Reboot even if Lucy and Renee can't reprise their roles! We want it now!

Where do I stand on this outcome. A part of me wanted this show to be resurrected and a part of me didn't. I was at war with myself for a long time but as the news dragged on and Javi Grillo-Marxuach came into the picture, then he outlined his vision...alarm bells went off in my head. Not that I didn't think Javi would do a great job. He would have - he got people emotionally invested in characters in a show (The 100) that generated such emotion that death threats were issued. A good writer can make you FEEL. Javi's credentials were not into question. What was into question was his idea of having Xena and Gabrielle as lovers - just like that. No subtext, no iffs or maybe.

Pleasuredome: Burn Baby Burn - Herald On Sunday 20 August 2017

The countdown is on for the premiere of Pleasuredome! Herald on Sunday has an article about the show and it’s getting quite exciting! For more about Lucy's role as Sappho in Pleasuredome Musical head on over to AUSXIP Lucy Lawless Pleasuredome subsite

BURN BABY BURN
NZ Herald On Sunday

Disco fever is hitting Auckland and after socialite Colin Mathura-Jeffree’s high-octane Studio 54 birthday party at REC in Britomart last Saturday, it looks as though punters will be up for dressing 80s-style as Pleasuredome opens soon.

A-listers such as dancing queen Candy Lane and Real Housewives’ Michelle Blanchard and Gilda Kirkpatrick partied with CMJ who knocked on wood for hours, and showed everyone how it’s done in the wardrobe stakes.

Pleasuredome the stage show — described as a “dirty urban musical” promising a raucous night of sex, drugs, and 80s hits — opens on September 28, and its backers hope the crowd will dress in theme, as thousands have done for various iterations of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Rehearsals began this week, with Lucy Lawless in the starring role as the hedonistic diva of the Pleasuredome. Spy caught up with other cast members about their excitement of working with Lawless. Sol3 Mio’s Moses Mackay (who plays the House DJ, Otis) and Shortland Street cop James Gordon (who plays nightclub owner Remy), are blown away by her enthusiasm and will be trying hard to keep up with her jiving to songs of the decadent decade.

“I’m excited to get stuck into this project,” Mackay told Spy. “The creative team and cast members are working on a concept that’s never been done before. I’m no stranger to the stage, but this type of performance will be a first on many levels for me. I love the challenge of new and innovative ideas and that’s why I’m excited to bring the role of Otis to life.”

This will be his first big acting role — he’s had cameos in Spartacus and made a guest appearance with Sol3 Mio on Shortland Street.

Gordon, 25, hasn’t hit the stage since acting school, where he performed in Mamma Mia.

“There is this brilliant kind of energy that can only come from entering into a new adventure together and I can’t wait to dive into it. Lucy is such a veteran of theatre and screen and was amazing to work with.
“All the stars of the cast were just as sweet, humble and generous: it’s such a relief to know that these experienced performers can be so down to earth.

“The energy for this show feels powerful and we think we can really create something that will inspire people and take them into another dimension and welcome audiences to the Pleasuredome,” Gordon said.

Spy thinks Lawless and her husband, Pleasuredome’s producer Robert Tapert, are bound to take this production global.

Lucy’s Choir GALS: Gay and Lesbian Singers Benefit December 2017

GALS: Gay and Lesbian Singers Auckland

You can help GALS to help homeless charities in Auckland

We're looking forward to presenting the Street Requiem at Auckland Town Hall on Tuesday 5 December, with proceeds benefitting Auckland homeless charities - but we need a bit of help. Read on to see how you can help us make a difference...

We anticipate having over 150 singers for the Requiem, and each singer needs a copy of the music score. GALS has to pay a license fee for each singer to the copyright holders.

We want to help make a difference to those who are in real difficulty or suffering in our community, as well as providing our audience with a great concert, but all our production costs have an impact on what we can donate to the supporting charities.

You can help by making a donation towards the cost of our music. $30 will cover the cost of the music license and printing for one person, and provide a little extra towards our other costs. But we'll be delighted to receive all donations, big or small - every little helps. Donations are tax deductible (in NZ).

You can donate via Givealittle, you will find the link here

https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/galsstreetrequiem

In September, we'll start selling Tickets for this concert - this is one GALS concert you really don't want to miss!

Thanks again on behalf of those who will benefit from this event.

Interview: Lucy Lawless is Absolute Worst in ‘Ash vs. Evil Dead’ Season 3

The home video release of Ash vs. Evil Dead, Season 2 is just around the corner. In celebration of that fact, we got to speak with the cast of the show who let us in on their characters’ respective journeys during this season and in the season to come. Warning: There is a slight spoiler warning for those of you who have yet to catch up on Ash vs. Evil Dead, for some reason.

In Season 2, Ash and the gang are forced to leave Jacksonville and travel to Ash’s home town of Elk Grove, Michigan where its citizens have run him out after the events of Evil Dead 2. There, he confronts Ruby, only to find that she too is now a victim of evil and in need of Ash’s help. The former enemies become reluctant allies as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

In this article, Lucy Lawless talks about how Ruby goes from ambiguously evil, to a reluctant ally, and back to the absolute worst person in the entire universe!

Fox News - Then and Now: 'Xena' Stars Have Discussed Possible Reboot

Image

Fox News recently had an interview with Renee and also have the following article about the Xena Reboot. Renee tallks about Xena and a possible Xena Reboot.

August 11, 2017

“Xena: Warrior Princess” came to an end 16 years ago, but Renee O’Connor, who starred as sidekick Gabrielle, is still grateful for her involvement with the series, which became a top-rated syndicated show in the U.S. and a popular franchise in over 100 countries.

“I still feel quite blessed to be part of a group of people who really loved these two characters and what they stood for,” O’Connor told Fox News. “And [fans] resonate with those characters. They go out to become stronger, better people. I just feel so incredibly grateful that I was a part of it. This community kept developing and becoming stronger and stronger. And even when the show ended, this community continues to be an outreach for all types of philanthropy. That’s huge to me and even more important.”

“Xena” ran from 1995 until 2001. And throughout six seasons, the ladies spent their time combating evil, but off-camera, the set resembled a screwball comedy.

“Sometimes it felt like it was a movie out of the '30s with this Errol Flynn character swooping in,” she said, referring to cast-mate Bruce Campbell, who played Autolycus, the king of thieves. “There was a great sense of brotherhood and family — we always had that on set. It carried between all of us from the actors to the crew… We just had a sense of fun and adventure on set all the time. And that resonated with all of us. It was just a dynamic experience.”

And O’Connor stressed her friendship with Lawless is real. The duo still stay in touch.

“I feel really connected to her. She’s like a sister,” said O’Connor. “I love her and I admire her dearly. I'm always happy to send her a message… That's the beauty of email. I can send her a message and I'll know where she is... She’s an amazing human being and she's incredibly talented so she’s always pushing herself to do more as a person. I always felt that way about her. It hasn’t changed. It’s only magnified through the years.”

She also didn’t mind the costumes, even if they got smaller throughout the seasons.

“I just think there was so much fabric they didn’t know what was going to be underneath!” she joked. “Maybe they were afraid. They just kept cutting off a piece at a time. Or maybe it was just budgetary concerns… [Gabrielle] did grow through the years and developed from a young girl to a young woman, so they were trying to find ways to accentuate that change and show who she was on-camera -- and off-camera as well -- whether I was training or not.”

And “Xena” lives on. In 2016, the New York Times reported a reboot was in the works — one where the pair will be openly gay. O’Connor and Lawless aren’t involved with the revival, but rumors have long spread about a potential movie featuring the original cast.

“Unfortunately, it just hasn’t materialized. But if it did happened, then yes, I would definitely love to be in it,” she said. “I would love to revisit these characters again. Obviously, it would be a completely different experience, but I think it would be really interesting if that came up [and] if we could actually play the same characters.”

Lawless is also aware of the idea.

“It was something we were always willing to do,” O’Connor added. “But I don’t know… In jest, it’s something we would obviously love to do, but it would have to be something realistic to our ages and something that makes sense… We’re both pretty fit, but we’re nothing like we were during the show.”

NZ Herald: Activists: Lawless Spied On By Oil Companies 12 August 2017

Image636381392552830310Image636381393015792890‘ Stalkerish’ spying won’t stop her activism

Greenpeace says it believes the actor Lucy Lawless was spied on by oil companies.

Lucy Lawless takes part in a Greenpeace protest in front of Statoil rig Songa Enabler in the Arctic’s Barents Sea in July.

This week the Herald revealed that the environmental lobby group claimed to have caught spies in the act, and had filed a privacy lawsuit in the Auckland High Court against Thompson & Clark Investigations which it alleged had run a longrunning spying campaign for oil companies Statoil and Anadarko.

Greenpeace claimed it caught the spies in the act after being tipped off by an anonymous source.

In response to questions from the Weekend Herald, Greenpeace New Zealand boss Russel Norman said Lucy Lawless’ high profile role in its climate campaign and information they have seen made it “highly likely” she was among those followed and watched.

Image636381394645271449The actor took part in a Greenpeace protest in the Arctic Barents Sea in July to oppose the search for new oil by Statoil which is majority- owned by the Norwegian Government.

Lawless didn’t know whether she had been followed home, as Greenpeace claims some of its members were, but told the Weekend Herald she could see why the team “are creeped out”.

“For crying out loud, if Statoil wants to know what I’m up to, they can follow me on Twitter or just read the Herald.”

Lawless said if she was being followed “in my private life to things like parent teacher meetings or tailing me when I’m out with friends, that would just be sordid and stalkerish.

“I have so many questions, like since Statoil is state- owned, was the Norwegian Government aware of it?”

Lawless said she knows the Greenpeace staff. “They are humble folk with a lot of integrity and the fact that they’ve become targets of corporatesponsored espionage is ludicrous.

“I won’t be put off by this and I’m sure that Greenpeace won’t either.”

The Herald emailed requests for comment to the companies this week. A director of Thompson & Clark said they were “bemused” by Greenpeace’s legal claim. A request for comment about Lucy Lawless has been sent to the investigation and security firm.

Prime Minister Bill English has categorically dismissed any suggestion that the Government was in any way involved or complicit and Energy and Resources Minister Judith Collins also said she had no knowledge of any alleged spying.

Thompson & Clark has provided information about Greenpeace to New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals, a division of the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, a spokesman for MBIE said. This was said to be information relevant to the prosecution of three Greenpeace activists.

“Thompson & Clark were the securit y company on board the Amazon Warrior seismic survey vessel [ prospecting off the Wairarapa coast] and have provided evidence of the alleged offending at sea, ” the spokesman said.

Apart from photos and videos of the alleged incident at sea, any information Thompson & Clark provided MBIE was specific to risks identified in safety and security plans, he said.

“For example, these may include pictures or locations of boat/ trailers on ramps, in relation to potential interference with an offshore activity. We are not informed about how information is gathered but we expect that anything provided has been gathered lawfully.”

In April, Norman and two other Greenpeace activists were prosecuted after jumping into the sea in front of the Amazon Warrior. The ship was conducting seismic sounding for Statoil and Chevron.

It was reported last month that the trio would be offered diversion, an avenue that would require them to admit to breaking the law. At the time Norman accused the Government of “prosecuting climate activists and pandering to oil companies”.

Ash Vs Evil Dead Season 3 Update

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 3 should be here soon or we don't know when. Apparently Starz has not released the date it will air Season 3.

Lucy Tweeted about the show:

Bloody-Disgusting.com has been asking when is the third season going to air.

Given that Starz hasn’t yet announced the premiere date for Season 3 of “Ash vs. Evil Dead,“ rumors have been swirling around the horror community that it won’t kick off in the Fall like the previous two seasons did. Some fans are even worried about what that means for the future of the series, if it indeed has been bumped.

So what’s the deal here? Well, Bruce Campbell just took part in a brief interview with Red Carpet Crash, and he addressed the elephant in the room… as best he could.

“When you hear the date, let me know,” Campbell joked. “Starz has said a couple different things, about possibly shifting the premiere date to try and get a cleaner slot within the year. So we don’t know. It’ll either be Fall or first quarter 2018… is my guess.”

From what we gather, the shift to 2018 is likely, and we can only speculate (based on Campbell’s comments) that it may have something to do with Starz wanting to separate “Ash vs. Evil Dead” from “Stranger Things” and “The Walking Dead” a bit. After all, they’ll be dominating the Fall season, which is normally when “Ash vs. Evil Dead” is airing.

During the same interview, Campbell promised that Season 3 is going to be a game-changer.

“We blew the doors off with episodes 9 and 10 this season,” Campbell noted. “At the end of Season 3, hopefully you will have to pick your jaw up off the floor when you see what we’ve done. It’s pretty big. Nothing will ever be the same by the end of this season.”

Filming on “Ash vs. Evil Dead” Season 3 wrapped this past June.

Pleasuredome: Mini Rob Tapert Q & A About Possible DVD and Touring

Rob Tapert’s official Facebook Page has been updated with a mini Q & A.

Okay a few questions were raised and I sent them to Rob. Here are the answers in this mini Rob Tapert Q&A

Q. Will Pleasuredome be recorded and turned into a DVD?

Rob: No DVD will be available. This is strictly "a be there in the live event"

Q. Will this tour outside of New Zealand?

Rob: And as far as touring, that is the hope but not with Lucy.

So it looks like if you want to see this incredible show with Lucy as Sappho, you will have to trek down to New Zealand. NZ is GORGEOUS and you get to see a great place and catch an awesome show.

The actual show is built around a real street (Patiki Rd) that has been used on Ash Vs Evil Dead as downtown Michigan and now it's turned into a real 1980's New York street. Tickets can be bought here

Press Release: Lucy Lawless To Star in Pleasuredome - The Ultimate 80's Musical Experience

20597008 1975185739431555 2947953288448739664 n

LUCY LAWLESS TO STAR IN PLEASUREDOME - THE ULTIMATE 80'S MUSICAL EXPERIENCE

Forget everything you knew about musicals, this is an immersive experience set within a fully realised Manhattan streetscape just off Rosebank Road, 10 minutes from Auckland's CBD. Here your journey begins before being transported back in time to the heart-stopping, booty-shaking, mythical Pleasuredome nightclub. This is the night you never dreamt possible.

Lucy Lawless is Sappho, the show's sexy, hedonistic diva whose lavish performances have made Pleasuredome synonymous with glamour and excess. Also starring Moses Mackay (Sole Mio), Ashleigh Barlow (Wicked), Vince Harder (The Lion King), Stephen Lovatt (Neighbours) and a 20-strong cast of local and international performers all supported by a state of the art light & projection extravaganza.
This is a story of desire, addiction, greed, and the power of love, set on the dance-floor to some of the biggest tunes of the era.

Directed by Michael Hurst (Chicago) and produced by Rob Tapert (Spartacus), Pleasuredome will be the most electrifying theatre experience ever staged in New Zealand.

"As a twenty-something youth in the 80's, a friend dragged me to an underground club in New York City - it was something you could only find in that city, a fusion of beautiful people, music, lights - a sensory overload. It was the most incredible and wildest night of my life and, for near forty years, I've been working on the right vehicle that could re-create that seminal ride for others. Pleasuredome is a classic tale of desire, love, and greed set at the party you've only dreamt about - all mixed to an 80's soundtrack." - Rob Tapert

"In the shimmering world of the Pleasuredome, all that glitters may burn a girl out. My character, Sappho is in the fight of her life to rescue true love from the ashes. It's a wild, funkadelic, joyful ride. Let me take you there...." - Lucy Lawless

Pleasuredome will open on September 28th with tickets for this World Premiere season of Pleasuredome on sale now from Ticketek with tickets starting at only $29 + BF (for the previews). Selected dates are already at capacity with the season set to sell out so audiences are warned not to delay.
