US TV series denied use of reserveKiwi actress Lucy Lawless is known for her onscreen superpowers but on Auckland's North Shore it's a local board that holds the power.
Two commercial applications requesting to use a Northcote reserve have been rejected, including the makers of American television series Ash vs Evil Dead, starring Lawless.
The film crew from Screen Auckland had asked to erect pop-up tents in Smith's Bush, during filming for the horror sitcom television series based on past Evil Deal movies, but Kaipatiki Local Board denied the application.
It also turned down an application from Run Auckland organisers.
The board holds decision-making powers over the use of parks on the community's behalf.
Board member John Gillon says the board's bold decision sends a signal that future applications for events like this won't be approved.
