Lucy Enters US Election As Vice President Nominee…

Apparently the US Election is not really being contested only by Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Jill Stein or Gary Johnson. Ash Williams is also throwing his hat into the ring at this late stage to be President of the United States. His VP of choice is…Ruby Knowby!

Image636108579392293869Image636108551072603265

Seriously. If you are voting in the election – DO NOT PUT ASH WILLIAMS in the ballot please, you are wasting your vote on that loser <g>

Vote for the woman that is the power behind Ash Williams…Vote for Ruby Knowby as VICE PRESIDENT! (Actually I think she should be President)

I’m MaryD and I approve this message <g>

Lucy Section:

When we last left our demon slaying heroes on Ash vs Evil Dead, Ash (Bruce Campbell) made a deal with the head demon Ruby (Lucy Lawless) that put him and his new pals out of harm’s way and safely in his own personal paradise… Jacksonville, Florida. For the Season 2 premiere, “Home,” we open with Ruby battling demons. Lucy Lawless quickly gets introduced to Evil Dead tradition, as one spews boiling black vomit blood onto her… welcome to the club, Lucy! She fights them off long enough to realize that despite the truce, only Ash can truly end this. Unfortunately, that’s going to interfere with Ash’s plans. He is the star of the Jacksonville show, chainsawing through kegs and using his boomstick on beer bottles.

WIN A TICKET TO THE 2017 RETREAT!

Everyone knows Xenites come together during a time of struggle. We are hosting a fundraiser this week, and the grand prize is a free ticket to the 2017 Xenite Retreat!

It's difficult to find the words to share the news that Xenite and Retreat Team Awesome member Ann Pilichowski is slipping away from us because of a rare and aggressive cancer. For those who know her, and even for those who have only met her once or twice, this is heartbreaking news.

We would like to help raise some money to assist with the medical and funeral costs that Ann's family will need to pay by giving a Xenite Retreat ticket to one lucky person!
If you win, there are three different prizes to choose from below: (pick one)

  1. 1 x fully paid ticket to the Xenite Retreat for you (or a friend, if you already have a ticket).
  2. Pay off the remaining balance of your deposit ticket to the Xenite Retreat.
  3. Donate the free ticket to the Greater Good Scholarship.

HOW TO ENTER:

  • Visit Ann's YouCaring fundraiser page and make a donation of $10 or more.
  • You will receive one entry into the draw for every $10 you donate.
  • If you donate $100 you will receive 5 FREE additional entries into the draw - that's 15 entries total. (For those of you who have purchased Chakram raffle tickets, this will sound familiar).
  • Make sure you do not donate anonymously or we will not see your entry.
  • You are welcome to leave a message of support for Ann's family to read if you wish.
  • Entries are open from 8:30pm Central on Sunday, September 11th 2016.
  • Entries will close at 1:30pm Central on Sunday, September 18th 2016.

THE WINNER WILL BE ANNOUNCED LIVE ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH AT 2PM CENTRAL.

The live drawing will take place over on the Xenite Retreat FB page, via Facebook Live. The winner will also be contacted privately after the drawing to be told that they have won. You do not have to be present at the FB live drawing in order to win. This prize is not redeemable for cash, and does not include any travel expenses to or from the Xenite Retreat. If you are unable to attend the 2017 Xenite Retreat, the ticket can be given to a friend of your choosing or be donated to the Greater Good Scholarship. You may enter by donating to Ann's YouCaring page as many times as you like.
If you have any questions, please email XeniteRetreat@gmail.com.

Lucy in Movie Changeover Begins Filming in Christchurch Next Week

Image636092085466652757Lucy will begin filming a new movie called The Changeover (as we reported back in June 2016) in Christchurch, New Zealand next week. The movie is the screen adaptation of the Young Adult novel “The Changeover: A Supernatural Romance” by Margaret Mahy. The movie is set for worldwide release in 2017.

Lucy plays the role of Miryam Carlisle, Sorenson's Mother who is a witch

The film is about:
“A 16-year-old who lives in a low-rent suburb on the edge of earthquake-scarred Christchurch with her mother and four-year-old brother. When an ancient spirit attacks her brother and slowly drains the life out of him, she discovers her true identity and the supernatural ability within her, which she must harness to save her brother’s life.

Lucy is joined by actors: Timothy Spall, Melanie Lynskey, Charlie Heaton, Erana James, Stefania LaVie Owen, Jamie Curry
Directed by: Stuart McKenzie, Miranda Harcourt
Screenplay by: Stuart McKenzie

The New Zealand Herald has an article about the upcoming movie:

The movie, with a multimillion-dollar budget and set in post-earthquake Christchurch, is described as a coming-of-age thriller directed by long-time actress Miranda Harcourt and husband Stuart McKenzie.

"But it's also a love story between Laura [the lead character] and her little brother. It's her love for him that drives the story and then the romance kind of happens by mistake."

Filming will take place in a state house moved into the earthquake-ravaged Red Zone especially for the movie, and at the iconic Ballantyne House.

Harcourt said she and McKenzie, who wrote the movie's script, drew influences from the romance of fantasy film series Twilight and a thriller aspect from Scandinavian film Let the Right One In.

She said the backdrop was post-earthquake Christchurch because the broken city reflected the lead character's struggle to find her identity.

Culture Magazine Sept 2016 Interview: Lucy’s Views on Fame, Activism and Pro-Medical Cannabis

Image636090024523618441Culture magazine has a cover interview with Lucy about her role on Xena, Ash Vs Evil Dead and other roles but it also goes into her stance about various issues including Pro-Medical Cannabis and her activism with Greenpeace.

TENACIOUS TALENT Actress and activist Lucy Lawless is fierce, fearless and will fight for what is right

Culture Magazine
September 2016

Lucy Lawless thinks before speaking. Only not, apparently, to consider what her publicist or manager might want her to say. For while she’s forever associated with fantasy action roles, the refreshingly opinionated Ash vs Evil Dead actress conveys a defiantly down-to-earth demeanor in her unaffected Down Under brogue.

Some highlights:

You were a teen mom. How did rising to that considerable challenge help form the character that has made your so successful since?

I didn’t understand it was a challenge.

I think my family thought “oh, there go all her dreams of being an actress,” but within days of coming home from the hospital . . . I was full of energy; I was writing skits and things to produce into a show reel [and] went and filmed it. Jobs started to come from there.

[MaryD: I found this part quite interesting – she didn’t just sit back and let her dreams go to dust – she wanted something and she went for it.]

You’re a board member of New Zealand’s Starship Foundation, benefitting children’s healthcare, and have been involved with animal rights organizations such as Paw Justice. Do you see it as your responsibility to use your celebrity for good in those ways?

Well, I don’t want it to bloody sell lipstick! That just bores the shit out of me, all that stuff . . . [Celebrity is] currency, y’know—use it for something that does some good for the world.

In May, you tweeted a fairly strongly-worded pro-medical cannabis statement. Could you expand upon the sentiments behind this?

I just think it’s twisted that we withhold available medications from somebody in pain—it’s disgusting. Why wouldn’t you give it to them? How completely sick. We’re the ones who are sick—we’re sicker than they are.

How have your views on recreational and medical use of cannabis changed over your lifetime?

I don’t think I knew that marijuana could be medical when I was growing up. My views of marijuana haven’t really changed . . . I know it does a lot less harm to society than alcohol.

I certainly tried it as a kid, I do think we have to be really informed about the facts, but it doesn’t bother me if people smoke pot.

Your work with Greenpeace suggests that you’re very pro-active regarding issues about which you are passionate. Might you become more involved in medical cannabis activism?

I doubt it, except to say that I absolutely support—I mean, I really, wholeheartedly support [medical marijuana]. It’s medicine, man—nothing works like it, is what I’m hearing, so it’s very cruel and unusual to deny a palliative medicine from these [seriously ill] people.
