Prop 8 Court Decision on 26 May 2009 - Press Release

The Lucy PSA was released on 8th March. This is a newly released press release with updated info because the Court will rule Tuesday, May 26, 2009, on the challenge to Proposition 8.

Lucy Lawless, Eva Tamargo Support Equal Marriage Rights PSA

"The Difference" Public Service Announcement Promotes Equal Marriage Rights Featuring Actors Lucy Lawless and Eva Tamargo.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 24, 2009 -- Actors Lucy Lawless and Eva Tamargo are featured in an English and Spanish-language public service announcement (PSA) that was launched on the internet in support of gay marriage. The ad campaign is sponsored by California Equality NOW, an advocacy group comprised of independent filmmakers, to promote equal marriage rights. The PSA's are currently airing on websites such as Youtube.com and Myspace.com. The Difference has been in the "Top Plays" category on myspace.com since its release.

In May of 2008, the California Supreme Court held that same-sex couples have the fundamental right to marry as other Californians. Unfortunately, Proposition 8, a measure on the November 2008 ballot, amended the state's constitution to define marriage between one man and one woman. No other ballot initiative has ever changed the California Constitution to remove rights from a targeted minority group.

Jennifer Medvin, Writer/Producer of The Difference, states that the script was inspired by questions she continually receives on a daily basis. "I think the many differences between marriage and domestic partnership should have been addressed before the vote last year, but at least we can inform people now," states Medvin. "We just have to move forward and support the organizations that continue the fight for our community."

The PSA's contain video clips of straight couples denied equality to show that domestic partnerships are not equal to marriage.

Lucy Lawless, who is prominently featured in the English PSA version, is best known for her role as "Xena: Warrior Princess." When asked why she decided to narrate the PSA, Lawless responded, "I got involved because fairness is for everyone!"

"We appreciate the actor's generosity in donating their time and talents to help us publicize this injustice," Director/Producer Karen Wilkens said. "This means so much, not only to the LGBT community, but also the people of the State of California."

The Court will rule Tuesday, May 26, 2009, on the challenge to Proposition 8. If the court upholds the measure, it must also decide how the proposition affects the marriages of about 18,000 same-sex couples who wed before the November 4 election. Currently, Iowa, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut allow gay and lesbian couples to legally wed. Another seven states are set to vote on similar moves later this year, including New York and New Jersey.

Lucy In Climate Change Petition - Video and Press Release

lucyplanetb.jpg Lucy joined other celebrities Saturday in launching a petition urging the government to sign on to a 40 per cent cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020. They were joined by actor Rhys Darby, of Flight of the Conchords, and London-based chef Peter Gordon as ambassadors for a campaign by the international environmental group Greenpeace aimed at United Nations climate talks in Copenhagen in December.

Below is the official press release and the video. You can also go to the official site where there is a cool Lucy photo

Unlikely bedfellows unite over climate change - Press Release

Lucy Lawless, Stephen Tindall, Cliff Curtis, Peter Gordon and Jim Salinger are among a group of high-profile New Zealanders joining with Greenpeace to call for strong climate action.

They're ambassadors for Greenpeace's new Sign On climate campaign, which aims to generate an unprecedented level of support for John Key to sign on to a 40 per cent by 2020 emission reduction target at the UN climate talks in Copenhagen in December.

The campaign is being launched today at Lucy Lawless' house in Auckland.  "I'm signing on because there's no Planet B," said Lawless. "There's nowhere else for our kids and grandchildren to go. We need to get on with the business of tackling climate change. Our Government needs to sign up to a 40 by 2020 target."

"We need to act on climate change for two reasons," said Stephen Tindall. "Firstly, I'm a grandfather and I want my granddaughters to enjoy the New Zealand I've enjoyed. Secondly I'm a businessman. Unless we hold true to the ideals of New Zealand's clean, green image, we could lose our reputation, which could mean hundreds of millions of dollars worth of exports and our whole standard of living could drop."

Actress Keisha Castle Hughes, Founder of 42 Below Vodka Geoff Ross, Huffer clothing label, farmer Max Purnell, journalist Francesca Price and actor Rhys Darby are also Sign On ambassadors.

"Copenhagen is the most important meeting of our time," said Price.

Castle Hughes: "It's really important for me that my kids have access to the same resources that I've had the privilege of having.  Our Government needs to do the right thing in Copenhagen in December."

"Yes climate change is a bloody big issue, but it's also a bloody big business opportunity," said Ross. "Whether we like it or not, the world is going to move to deal with climate change.   We have the ability as a country to lead the charge on this. New Zealand has the best credentials. If we can create the brands and services to help clean up the globe, we'll be the winners economically."

The campaign aims to get as many New Zealanders as possible Signing On to support the 40 per cent by 2020 target. It will largely play out online at www.signon.org.nz

Jim Salinger, Nobel-Peace prize winning climate scientist who until recently worked at NIWA, has been working on climate change for over three decades. "It's a huge issue that's going to affect our children, our grandchildren and all life on this planet. I urge the New Zealand Government to Sign On to 40 per cent by 2020 emissions reduction target."

"If New Zealand doesn't do its bit for climate change this year, we will look back in 10 years time and regret it," said Bonnie Soper, who plays Morgan on Shortland Street.

Greenpeace Executive Director Bunny McDiarmid: "The mere fact that all these people from so many walks of life have come together should send a strong signal to the government that New Zealanders support strong action on climate change. It really is now or never. At no other time will the legacy of today's leaders be so determined by how they respond to this single issue. They will be held accountable because the stakes are so high."

"It's common sense really," said actor Cliff Curtis. "Clean up our planet and it will be a better place to live."

Joe LoDuca Talks About Lucy on Boogeyman CD

Just received the following from Julie H about the new Boogeyman CD

Thanks to the Ausxip heads-up, I ordered the limited edition Boogeyman cd on Monday to add to my Lucy collection... :) It just arrived (wow!) and to make a long story short, here's what Joe LoDuca says about Lucy in the liner notes:

"When Tim approaches his house, I knew that I wanted a female vocalist," says LoDuca. "So I called upon Lucy Lawless, who plays Tim's mother, as well as being Rob Tapert's wife outside of the film. While I wanted spooky, wordless vocals from Lucy, she came up with the brilliant idea to have her phrasing become the ghost voice of Tim's mother. And that allows her to further tease and chide Tim. So Lucy created this character, as both a musician and an actress, which worked out very well. When it came to children's chorus she interacts with, I had maybe 14 kids, which we then overdubbed - sprinkling a few adult women to be their 'mother hens' that they could rely on for pitch and direction. And everyone had a great time screaming their heads off for the Boogeyman soundtrack, which was very therapeutic for our singers!"

Click here to order a copy - there are only 1500 copies of this CD created so you have to hurry

Lucy Lawless wishes the Star Supporters Club a Happy 5th Birthday

Dear Star Supporter,

Bring on the fairy bread and party hats! It's the Star Supporters Club's 5th birthday and we're celebrating five years of caring for Starship kids.

My name is Lucy Lawless. I'm a Mercury Energy customer and Starship Foundation Trustee. Five years ago, I became the very first Mercury Energy customer to join an exciting initiative called the Mercury Energy Star Supporters Club.

Our first project was fundraising $160,000 for an advanced x-ray unit. The chance to make a real difference to Starship kids must have captured customers' hearts, because we blasted to this target and have been shooting for the stars ever since.

Hello Everyone,

Cat and I would like to thank everyone for all your support in our effort to participate as Team Amazon in the Aids/Lifecycle Event 8 taking place in three weeks!!! The seven day ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles will test us physically and mentally but we could not be more determined to complete it for ourselves, and for those that never will get the opportunity.

We especially want to all of you who returned to our Aids Lifecycle Auction that MaryD has so graciously hosted at Ausxip.com. As you may well know, her site was hacked and when this happened our auction page and all the bids were totally erased. Mary, the magician that she is put everything back up and we are just so grateful to see everyone coming back to continue biding. The first phase of the auction ends this Sunday May 10, 2009 and we want everyone to go check out what awesome goodies are available and consider bidding and become an honorary Team Amazon Member. We will bring you along with us in spirit every mile we ride.

Auctions Gone Wild - Lucy in Shared Goo

My first reaction to this was Ick and the second was...is it that glamarous being an actor? Check out the article on Battlestar Galactica Props & Auctions article about the BSG Auction

One of the funniest (and gross) stories came from Grace Park. She talked about the Cylon goo , and how she and Lucy Lawless and Tricia had to share goo. Now I'm sure all of you are thinking, "Hey, Cylon goo, that's not so bad." Weeell, apparently there was a lot of hair in the goo. And it stuck to them. I think the funniest part was Trucco's face getting more and more disgusted as they went on, which made the ladies laugh even harder.

Lucy Sings on Boogeyman CD

This is a surprise - Lucy is on the new Boogeyman CD.

CD REVIEW - BOOGEYMAN

Boogeyman
Music by Joseph LoDuca
La-La Land Records LLLCD 1090 (US)
20 Tracks 44:43 mins

The latest co-production by La-La Land Records' Michael V. Gerhard and composer Joseph LoDuca sees the pair take a trip into the recent past by releasing a limited edition recording of the latter's score for the 2005 horror Boogeyman. Now, normally I rarely watch films in this genre, but I am always interested to hear what LoDuca comes up with, since his days on Hercules, American Gothic and the like; and I must admit that I found the film quite entertaining and the score very effective, so it's nice that this music is now commercially available, though you'd best hurry along to www.lalalandrecords.com if you want to get your hands on one of only 1500 copies pressed.

The track continues mysteriously in "As the Crow Flies." Vocal work features quite strongly in the score, with Lucy Lawless (Xena - a link to LoDuca, who scored that show, of course) providing the haunting solos, as well as playing the young Tim's mother, and her first contribution can be heard in the mournful "Delivered," a feel that continues on guitar and piano in "Message from Mom/Room 3."

Lawless returns for "House of Broken Dreams, bolstered by children's' choir, as Lawless softly sings a lullaby. After an opening rush of action, the heartbeat returns in "Staplin' Uncle Mike," giving way to more menacing action as the cue races to its dissonant climax.
