Angel of Death DVD Changed to Night Stalker - Updated

09 July 2009 Update

Update: Okay I received a very nice email this morning from Chad at Crackle/ Sony Pictures who read this thread and wanted to clear up the confusion (thanks Chad!). So that ends that confusion

--
 Hi Mary,

I came across your thread, and sensed your confusion regarding the upcoming Angel of Death DVD. I just checked with our people at Amazon and here is what happened: Night Stalker was incorrectly mapped to Angel of Death from IMDB. Amazon has resolved the IMDB issue and has added the Angel of Death synopsis to the Angel of Death detail page to assure customers find the DVD they are looking for. Angel of Death is Angel of Death, not Night Stalker.

28 June 2009 Update

Seems the confusion reigns with the Angel of Death / Night Stalker DVD. One entry on Amazon has it as Night Stalker (released 7 July as reported yesterday) and another entry on Amazon has it as Angel of Death and a DVD release of 28 July 2009.

Why is it so? (and for Aussies who get that reference...don't try the egg in the bottle trick <g> and for those that don't..check this out - nothing to do with Angel of Death/Night Stalker but my mind wandered to my favourite professor...).

Okay Barbara has been doing some digging for me (as good sidekicks do) and came up with this explanation:

Crackle of Death is a 1976 film, the third produced in the Night Stalker film series. It combined the Kolchak: The Night Stalker episodes Firefall and The Energy Eater with additional narration by Darren McGavin as Kolchak.
=====

Is it a coincidence that we find Crackle, 'of death', and Night Stalker in the same place?

And another reference to Night Stalker (no bets on the fact Lucy is NOT in this movie) from dreadcentral.com

<snipped>
That film will almost assuredly be better than what Ulli Lommel has in store for us with Night Stalker, which is coming to DVD on September 8th courtesy of North American Pictures.

It's based on the true story of satanic serial killer Richard Ramirez (AKA "The Night Stalker"), but given this is a Ulli Lommel movie, there's a high probability that the only aspect of the movie that has anything in common with the true facts of the case is that there is a serial killer named Richard Ramirez and he was a Satanist. The rest will most likely be the typical Lommel no-budget minimalist bullshit with delusions of artistic grandeur.

Now do you want a good laugh? If you click over to Amazon right now, you can pre-order yourself a copy of Night Stalker for only $48.99. Hey, that's a $21 savings off the list price of $69.99.

Either someone at Amazon screwed up the pricing information or Ulli Lommel is even more delusional than we all thought.
<Snipped>

So is everyone as confused as Barbara and I? I'm sure you are. The mystery continues...

27 June 2009 Update: Just an update (so people won't get confused). The Angel of Death DVD is now being called "Night Stalker" and it's listing Lucy in the main credits. The release date is 7 July 2009.

Lucy Mention Angel of Death Interview Wizard Magazine

The following excerpt is from Wizard Magazine June 2009 issue(#212). Wizard published an interview with Ed Brubaker, partly about 'Angel of Death'. Many thanks to Jolie for the transcript

Q - How did the rest of the cast come onboard?

Ed - Well, we wrote the part of Vera for Lucy Lawless just in the hopes that we could get her. The director reached out to her. And I know the director and producer both have some sort of relationship with Doug Jones and had talked to him at the 'Hellboy II' premiere about the idea of him playing the doctor, because they were interested to see if he would want to do something where he didn't have to wear make-up. The answer was yes.

But really, I didn't have a lot of activity in the casting other than the Zoe part we are all in on. They tell me that they didn't even tell Lucy Lawless that was for Zoe's thing, but I'm assuming Lucy Lawless has the internet, too. So she must have known.[Laughs] They didn't want to have her do it as a favor. They wanted her to do it because she thought it was a cool thing to do. And apparently, she had a really great time doing it. She really loved the character, to get to play a battered old hooker which is so different than anything she gets to do.

But what I discovered during this process is that most actors in the world are not working all of the time. They are in-between projects or waiting for production to start. And they will often take a few days or a week out of their life to go work on something if they think it's going to be cool and they like the script. Money isn't always the biggest factor for actors. It's doing something that you think is cool and getting something made. Whic is kind of a cool thing.

RO: Yeah, she's a special effect herself.

Lucy Scan - NZ Woman's Weekly Feb 1997

Scanned in an article from the New Zealand Woman's Weekly 10 February 1997 - Big Bonus for Xena. The article followed up on Lucy after her horrific fall whilst filming a skit for the Jay Leno Show that shattered her pelvis when the horse she was riding lost it's footing on the cement.

--------Front-Cover--------------
XENA STAR TELLS: "My injury made me a megastar"

---------Main-Header--------------
BIG BONUS FOR XENA

---------Sub--Header--------------

Kiwi actor Lucy Lawless has scored worldwide publicity as a result of the riding accident - and now she's being mobbed!

Lucy Lawless has discovered every cloud really does have a silver lining. When the star of Xena: Warrior Princess fell off a horse in October, breaking her pelvis in four places, it was the most painful and terrifying experience of her life. Yet, ironically"It was the best thing that ever happened to Xena," says the 28-year-old New Zealander, who had the accident while filming a skit for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

"Falling off that horse really put me on the map," explains Lucy. "Before it happened, there were a lot of people out there who had never heard of me or Xena. "The publicity all over the world about my accident changed all that and now a lot more people are watching the show. So, in a way, it was a blessing in disguise."

New Lucy Message - Animals and Spartacus!

Lucy has posted a new message on her official site about working on Spartacus and relocating from Hollywood back to Auckland, New Zealand.

Lucy has been busy relocating her family from Hollywood to Auckland, New Zealand, working on Spartacus as Lucretia and trying to urge New Zealanders to sign onto the Greenpeace campaign. That's some schedule. In amongst all of that is the job of finding new homes for the animal menagerie which include fish, rabbits and reptiles. The lucky animal to head to New Zealand is the cat (let's hope she gets on well with Koha).

Lucy also tells us a little about working on Spartacus and about her cast mates.

The New Zealand Magazine Good Issue 7 - June/July 2009 Issue has an article about the Sign On Greenpeace Campaign. It has a two page article/interview with a full size promo pic of Lucy.

New Zealand's own Warrior Princess once played Greenpeace head Bunny McDiamond (Note: Actually she didn't...she played Jane Redmond..see Lucy Lawless Sinking of the Rainbow Warrior Information Page for more about Lucy's role in this movie) in the Rainbow Movie tele-movie. Now the eco-warrior is backing a Greenpeace campaign on climate change. Lucy Lawless spoke to Good soon after her return to New Zealand, after nine years in LA.

What Lucy Lawless is NOT Doing This Year...

There seems to have been some rumours floating about what Lucy will be doing this year (other than Spartacus). Today is Rumour Busting Day....

Lucy is doing another concert in London. This rumour was started by an Italian Lucy site (Xandrella). The rumour caused fans to get excited about the prospect that maybe Lucy would recreate the magic of the Bad Girls In Heaven London Concert, UK May 2008

Unfortunatley for the European fans but that's not going to happen.

Rumour Busted: Sharon has posted on Lucy's Official List and on Lucy's site that won't happen (well won't happen this year).

The other rumour is about Lucy guest starring on Burn Notice. A little back story for this rumour...Lucy guest starred on Burn Notice as Evelyn in the episode False Flag. Evelyn was a woman whose estranged husband has disappeared with her son. Michael helps track down the husband and finds himself matched against an opponent just as skilled and deadly as he is . . . only more ruthless! Evelyn met an untimely death...she jumped off a building and unlike Xena, she doesn't bounce back from the dead.

Now this rumour was started by Bruce Campbell who mentioned Lucy while he was talking about Burn Notice Season 3 and everyone got excited about Evelyn or another character being created for Lucy.

Rumour Busted: Sharon has posted on Lucy's Official List and on Lucy's site that this not happening and Lucy is NOT in Season 3 of Burn Notice.

Lucy Lawless ("Evelyn")
At first, Evelyn seemed to be a mother trying to find her kidnapped son, but when Michael tracked down her wayward husband, Evelyn tried to pop a cap in his ass. Angry mom? Or paid assassin using Michael to find her target? Unfortunately, the latter. She seemingly fell to her death while trying one last time to fulfill her contract, but she may not be dead after all, since sources (Bruce Campbell sources!) say she'll return this season. Lucy Lawless: unkillable Warrior Princess, or endlessly copied Cylon? You be the judge!

Angel of Death.  Technically, this promo was not for new content, but probably meant to tie into next month's DVD release of Season 1.  But we here at NTVS will watch Zoe Bell pulverize everyone in her path until our eyes glaze over, and we're not a bit ashamed of it.  New or not, there's just no limit to the number of times you can watch a badass female assassin with a big knife in her head.

Lucy Xena Scans - Xena and Hercules Episodes

Added some new high resolution scans from Xena Warrior Princess and Hercules The Legendary Journeys which featured Lucy as Xena.

The first one is from the Xena Warrior Princess Season 1 Episode 24 Is There A Doctor In the House.

Xena (Lucy Lawless) forces an end to the Mitoan-Thessalian War while using her medical knowledge to save the lives of numerous casualties, including Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor).

The second scan is from the Hercules The Legendary Journeys Season 1 Episode 13 - Unchained Heart which was the last episode in the Xena Trilogy and the start of a Xena spinoff Xena Warrior Princess.

Hercules and Xena thought Darphus had been killed in the battle over Parthis. But Ares resurrected Darphus, who headed off to cause more mayhem with his army. Darphus fed his victims to Graegus, Ares' man-eating dog, and the creature grew more powerful with every meal. Working together, Hercules and Xena outwitted the evil Darphus and destroyed Graegus. They also fell in love. Although the passion they felt for each other was strong, Xena was compelled to make amends around the land for her past wrongdoings. She thanked Hercules for unchaining her heart and departed.

Lucy Magazine Scan - 2005 NZ Woman's Day

The 2005 July NZ Woman's Day had a very brief mention of Lucy when she performed at the 2005 Gay Pride Festival where she sang "Come To Me".

Lucy Lawless shimmied her way through a performance at the Gay Pride concert in LA looking more like Pamela Anderson than the raven-haired Warrior Princess we know and love. A natural blonde, the ex-Xena star has reverted to her golden tresses and has no trouble proving that blondes, especially tousled ones, do have more fun.

Total SciFi.com - 2 June 2009

The 25 Women Who Shook Sci-Fi

The sci-fi and fantasy genres have been marked by many iconic heroines. Some are striking for their leadership and bravery, others for their incredible sexiness, many for both. Following lengthy debate, Total Sci-Fi now reveals the 25 most important SF & fantasy heroines of all time. We've limited ourselves to TV and film - SF and fantasy literature probably warrants a further list all of its own - and in those instances where multiple actresses have portrayed a character, we've written who we believe gave the most definitive performance in brackets. No doubt there are many characters you feel we've left off, so drop us a line at dwscifi@titanemail.com and let us know!

23) XENA (Lucy Lawless, Xena: Warrior Princess)

We first saw Xena as a violent warlord in three episodes of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, before the kick-ass warrior earned her own popular series in which she battled evil in ancient Greece.

LC: I've met Lucy Lawless, and she couldn't have been nicer. We had a nice conversation. I think how she approached her character, how the show approached her, was great. Lindsay Wagner was a friend of mine a million years ago, I just don't have the opportunity to see her, but whenever I meet a mutual friend, I always send her my best. Same with Jaclyn Smith. Bruce Campbell Talks About Burn Notice (Lucy guest starred on the show as Evelyn: Season 1 Episode 10: False Flag  Airdate: 13 September 2007 (Click here to download video clips and view screencaptures/promo pics from the episode from the AUSXIP Lucy Lawless Burn Notice subsite)

You mentioned a little bit about Tim Matheson coming back, so can you tell us anything about any other guest stars you might be seeing this season?

Bruce Campbell: Oh, boy, guest stars. They come and go. We got Nick Turturro, who was on NYPD Blue, he's playing a weasely criminal character. I'm not so good with rattling all the things off. We're starting to get a good stable of directors, like Tim Matheson is becoming a stable director element. So it would be nice to see him come back. I hope he's in another episode as this guy Larry. He plays this crazy guy, Larry, who, I hope he comes back, because Tim is a really good actor, too. We had Lucy Lawless, I think on our second episode we got Lucy in. That was real fun to do. I got a bunch of friends we're always trying to get in there. They're coming and going. So it's sort of a stay tuned thing, to see who is coming. But the nice thing is when you have a hit show, you can get better actors. No one wants to be on a show with lousy ratings.

The Western Australian 1 June 2009 - Sony to repackage Web series as movie

Sony's television division has repackaged its Web series Angel of Death as a full-length movie, a new strategy to make Internet productions profitable by airing them on television and by selling DVDs. The 10-episode action thriller, first shown on the company's Crackle.com video site in March, will air as a 90- minute film July 25 on Viacom's Spike TV, and a DVD will be in stores July 28, Eric Berger, who oversees digital networks at Sony Pictures Television, said in an interview two weeks ago.

Angel of Death, featuring Zoe Bell and Lucy Lawless, is the story of an assassin who turns on her employers. To be profitable, the show must meet ratings expectations on Spike and sell well in stores, in addition to the ad sales on Crackle.com, Mr Berger said. Sony, which spent about $1 million making Angel of Death, is developing a second season.
