18 Fibreglass Horses Set To Cruise Auckland's City Streets
Friday, 4 March, 2011 - 10:16

Today, from 11.00 am until 2.30 pm, 18 life-size, painted fibreglass horses can be seen travelling the streets of Auckland City. They will be moving slowly, sitting proudly atop a procession of trucks.

The 18 horses, which have been painted lovingly by 18 talented artists, will be making their way to Ellerslie Racecourse ahead of Telecom Derby Day and Auckland Cup Week.  The sight of the 18 fine equine specimens is sure to stop traffic.

Those who look closely will see one horse is actually a cow. Another can be ridden like a bike. Each design is unique and reflects the creative flair of its talented designer.
The procession will head north through Newmarket before turning up Khyber Pass and along to Ponsonby Road.

The horses will then head east down College Hill and onto Queen Street via Victoria Street West.
Heading up Queen Street they will take a detour up Greys Avenue, so the DDB horse can say hi to its designers.

The trucks will then head along K Road and down Symonds Street, Anzac Avenue and then along the waterfront to The Strand.

After the Saatchi and Saatchi horse passes its designers on The Strand, the procession will head up Parnell Rise, through Newmarket before turning onto the motorway at Saint Marks Road.

After a final trip along the Southern motorway, the 18 horses will arrive safe and sound at Ellerslie where they will prepare excitedly for the biggest day on New Zealand's racing calendar, Telecom Derby Day.
After such a long day, they may need a drink of water.
