The US television series, shot in Mt Wellington, Auckland, New Zealand since 2009, premiered to record breaking numbers on Starz Network (US) in January 2010, and has aired in Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Poland, Hungary, Brazil, Ireland, Turkey, Italy, India, Pakistan, Slovenia, Australia and New Zealand.

Produced in New Zealand by Executive Producer and creative force Rob Tapert and Producer Chloe Smith for Pacific Renaissance on behalf of Starz Entertainment, the production was made with the assistance of the New Zealand Government's Large Budget Screen Production Grant and generated more than NZD$200million of spend into the New Zealand economy. Tapert and Smith have previously worked together on many off shore funded and New Zealand based productions, including Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Legend of the Seeker, 30 Days of Night and Xena: Warrior Princess.

Of the production, and filming in New Zealand, Tapert said "Shooting Spartacus in Auckland for the last four years only reconfirms my belief that New Zealand is a world class leader for film and TV production. Although the series has wrapped, I look forward to a future of making more productions here and continuing to be a part of the New Zealand film community. I also want to thank the thousands of Kiwis who worked on Spartacus - our cast, crew, extras, equipment suppliers, facilities - everyone ... it was through their efforts that the programme was an international success."

New Zealand Film Commission CEO, Graeme Mason, added "Spartacus was a key contributor to the NZD$3 billion generated by the film, screen and digital sector last year. The production engaged 315 permanent and 150 casual crew per week, 5000 extras days per season and 20 key cast roles per season plus ran a vendor list of 788 suppliers and six commercially leased buildings in the last season. The series has provided up-skilling opportunities and internships for New Zealanders who engage in our screen production industry."

The fourth and final season of the series, Spartacus - War of the Damned, will air in the US commencing 25 January 2013. War of the Damned concludes the story of Spartacus that began in 2009 with Blood and Sand and ran through two additional seasons, Gods of the Arena (a six episode prequel) and Vengeance. All told a run of four years and 39 hour long on-air episodes.

Huffington Post has a couple of new episode stills from from the upcoming Halloween Special episode.
There is a little bit of confusion on the site as it lists it under an upcoming episode that Lucy will not be in but hopefully they will clear that up pretty quickly.

Xena (Lucy Lawless) comes upon a peaceful town that is under attack by the evil Cycnus (Jeff Thomas) and his son Sphaerus

Andrea attended a Game Convention from 18-21 October in Essen, Germany. One of the largest (board) game conventions in the world.

And the Spartacus game was presented as well. They had some posters and a huge display with lots of photos.

I'm not sure how true this is but it's fun if it is true. The following article was posted in the print version of the NZ newspaper Sunday News 21 October 2012 about a possible role for Lucy in the Expendables sequel. Is it wishful thinking or is there some truth to this rumour? I sure hope it becomes real and we do see Lucy in this movie. Her Battlestar Galactica co-star Katee Sackhoff has signed on for a role in the movie. Could it be? Maybe? I sure hope so! We wait and see.

5. Lucy Lawless (Xena, Warrior Princess)

She started out on Kevin Sorbo's Hercules show, and then got her own spin-off as a reformed villain going around the ancient world helping people and being all heroic. Lawless helped made the television world safe for female action heroes ? but she also helped to redefine the "action hero" role as something involving a lot more heart and interior life than just the standard swaggerpants archetype. Here's a pretty great article by an acting coach about all the warmth and subtle technique that Lawless brought to the role of Xena, taking a seriously campy show and infusing it with a modicum of humanity. And vulnerability.

Looks like Lucy is about to head for the US again to film another episode of Parks and Recreation (Episode 9: Ron and Diane) - this is the episode with Megan Mullally - According to TV Guide: Megan Mullally will be back in Pawnee as Ron's second ex-wife in the 9th episode called "Ron and Diane". If the airing schedule continues to go as planned, this episode will be aired late November or December.

October 7 saw the release of Lucy's participation in the Partially Examined Life podcast (Number 64). It was 2 hours long and a very thoughful and interesting discussion about fame. There were several people who asked if a transcript was available and unfortunately I got the reply back from Mark from the Partially Examined Life site today to say there wasn't. Unless someone would like to transcribe the show for fans, the Partially Examined LIfe official site does not have a transcript.

Parks and Recreation is casting for several new characters for the upcoming Parks and Recreation Episode 9 called Ron and Diane which we will see late November / December.

There isn't a lot of information about it other than the name of the episode and character info but it's a good bet to assume Lucy will be back as Diane.

Lucy will next be seen in the 5th episode called "Halloween Surprise" and that will air on NBC 25 October 2012.

On the evening of 9/10, we talked with actress Lucy Lawless about fame. She’s been a great supporter of the Partially Examined Life, and if she is to be believed (and her piercing stare will make you believe it), our little discussion group product inspired her to go back to school and study philosophy, in between flying back from New Zealand to the states to film things, saving the arctic, and tweeting. She was a great sport, and regular listeners will be pleased that the recording came off much more like a regular PEL episode than a fawning celebrity interview. Much as when we have had a comedian or artist on in the past, Lucy was there to provide a reality check on our wild speculations about that divide between the numinous and the civilians.

Lucy was on twitter this morning and she mentioned that she will be listening to Al Gore next week in Auckland. As we know Lucy was part of 24 hours of Reality with Al Gore  telecast where she gave the Auckland address - click here to watch the video

Here's Lucy's first episode on Parks and Recreation - Season 5 Episode 3. Lucy will next appear on the show as Diane on Episode 5 on 25 October 2012. Lucy revealed in a recent interview that this may not be the last we see of Diane so here's hoping we get a lot more of Lucy on this show. It's a very clever show. Video created by Roger. Parks and Recreation: Lucy Lawless Talks About Romancing Ron Swanson
The actress talks about her new stint in Pawnee and gives her thoughts on Spartacus ending.

Here at IGN TV, we were psyched to hear that Lucy Lawless would be appearing on Parks and Recreation this season, in a recurring role as a new love interest for none other than Ron Swanson, played by Nick Offerman. And when I spoke to Lawless on the set of the series recently, where she was filming her second episode, she quickly made it clear she shared that excitement. Even before we began our interview, she was telling me just how great a set it was and how happy she was to be working on such a funny show.

Sitting on the recently built Washington, D.C. sets (for Ben and April's new jobs this season), we went on to discuss what makes her character, Diane -- who makes her debut this week -- the kind of woman Ron would be interested in, why Parks and Rec is so great and a bit about the end of Spartacus.

Twist! Ron Swanson is getting a love interest who isn't named Tammy! Yes, the Parks and Recreation's curmudgeon will meet his match this Thursday when Lucy Lawless makes her first appearance as Diane, and TVGuide.com was on set for their meet-cute. Interestingly enough, Lawless says this character is "probably closest to me than anything I've ever played." Lucy Lawless’ character Diane (debuting this Thursday) will be “tall and striking and beautiful and commanding and very funny and charming and smart and capable… everything Ron would look for in a woman.” But her life as a single mom to two young and unruly girls, which Schur calls “a little messier than [Ron's] accustomed to,” makes him go back and forth on whether he’d like to pursue a relationship with her. If I may, Ron, a little advice: It’s Lucy freaking Lawless – take the win!
