Here is what Spartacus fans have been waiting for - more Spartacus! Received the latest press release and DVD and Blu-Ray covers for the Spartacus: Gods of the Arena DVD and Blu-Ray releases in September!

PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release June 20, 2011

GodsoftheArena-DVD-3d

THIS SEPTEMBER, JOURNEY INTO THE PAST...
ANCHOR BAY ENTERTAINMENT RELEASES
"SPARTACUS: GODS OF THE ARENA"
AND "CAMELOT"

On Blu-Ray™ and DVD September 13, 2011

BEVERLY HILLS, CA -Anchor Bay Entertainment announced today that it will release two of the Starz Original series, "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" and "Camelot - The Complete First Season" on Blu-ray™ and DVD in the U.S. and Canada on September 13, 2011. Each has become a fan favorite with their unique mix of visceral action, thrilling adventure and revealing romance. Both sets will roll out with extensive bonus features yet to be announced.

"We're pleased to be bringing both of these series to Blu-ray™ and DVD," said Kevin J. Carney, Executive Director of Marketing for Anchor Bay Entertainment. "Releasing both on the same date will give fans a chance to check each series out, catch up on those they've missed and prepare for future episodes."

GodsoftheArena-BD-3d"Spartacus: Gods of the Arena" is the prequel to the widely popular Starz Original series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand." Executive produced by Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, Joshua Donen and Steven S. DeKnight, the 6 exhilarating episodes explore the House of Batiatus as it rises -- basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. Poised to overthrow his father and take control, he'll freely betray anyone to ensure his gladiators are in the highest demand. And he'll have his loyal and calculating wife, Lucretia, by his side for every underhanded scheme, drawing on the brazen talents of her seductive friend Gaia when it counts. Together, they will stop at nothing to deceive the masses, seize power and bleed Capua dry.

Joining returning stars, John Hannah (The Mummy, Four Weddings and A Funeral) as Batiatus, Lucy Lawless ("Xena: Warrior Princess") as Lucretia and Peter Mensah (300, The Incredible Hulk) as Oenomaus, are talented new cast members Dustin Clare ("Underbelly") as Gannicus, Jaime Murray ("Hu$tle") as Gaia and Marisa Ramirez ("General Hospital") as Melitta.

Meet Costume Designer Barbara Darragh - Creator of Xena's Iconic Leather Costume

Image

Costume designer Barbara Darragh is the creator of Xena’s iconic outfit, Billy T James’ look as the Tainuia Kid in Came a Hot Friday, and has won awards for her work on the feature films The End of the Golden Weather and River Queen. Darragh’s television credits include Under the Mountain, Greenstone, Hercules and Xena, and, most recently, Spartacus.

In this ScreenTalk, Darragh talks about:

* Helping create special effects on the classic TV series Under the Mountain
* Using an assortment of odds and ends to create Billy T James’ Tainuia Kid costume for Came a Hot Friday
* Scouring old photo albums to create a vintage feel for The End of the Golden Weather
* How winning an award for the film’s costumes recognised the costume designing craft
* Having fun creating costumes for the ‘sandals and swords’ fantasy show Hercules
* Never intending to create a lesbian icon when designing the signature costume for Xena
* Using an incredible amount of blue dye for the soldiers’ uniforms on River Queen
* Managing tension on set over different views on how the film should look
* How beauty, pain, dirt and nudity make designing for Spartacus a ‘dream’

Lucy Lawless In Prison For Shine Big Night In 19 March 2011

Image634434592748750000Now there's a headline I'm sure most Lucy fans didn't think they would see. Lucy volunteered to go to prison as part of a fundraising event for the New Zealand charity Shine on 19 March 2011. Shine – (Safer Homes in NZ Everyday) - is doing what works to stop domestic abuse in New Zealand. A very worthy charity indeed and one worthy of spending some time in prison to raise some money.

The Official Shine site has a great pic of Lucy (if you save the thumbnail image, you get the full size version rather than the thumbnail or click here to download it full size) – look at that face! LOL! Great mug shot. No photos were allowed inside the prison so this is the only photo which was taken as the "inmates" arrived at the prison.

The NZ Herald had an article about the charity event written by Tapu Misa on why this event took place. Click here to read the article

From the Official Shine Site:

In recognition of Shine’s contribution to the safety of New Zealand families, the Department of Corrections offered a unique opportunity for an evening inside the new portion of the Mt. Eden Prison facility. This event raised a massive $120,000 to support Shine’s award winning programme, safe@home, which provides free home security upgrades for high risk victims of domestic abuse – adults and dependent children who are at risk of serious injury or death.

Kerre Woodham MC'd this exclusive, invitation-only event. The guest list of dignitaries and corporate groups included Members of Parliament, Auckland Mayor Len Brown, Lucy Lawless, Rosie Horton (recently made a Dame for her charity work) and other prominent New Zealanders. Speakers included Dr. Pita Sharples and a former inmate who described what it was like being a prisoner.

The evening’s activities included an auction of a few very special donated items including:

  • A Ralph Hotere signed bottle of wine
  • Tim and Neil Finn signed Takamine guitar
  • A Jon Tootill painting "Koekoea"
  • A Queenstown golf package for 4
  • A Fiona Whyte sculpture "The Light Within"
  • A dinner party for 10 by chef and owner Geoff Scott at Vinnie's Restaurant in Herne Bay (which sold for more than any other auction item)

As the event was held inside of a prison, guests were treated to a night free from cellphones, cameras and stiletto heels. Hence the only photos taken at the event were of guests as they arrived.

Aitutaki Lagoon

The Aitutaki Lagoon is 20 kilometres across at its widest point. It is much bigger than imagined, as the island of Rarotonga (Cook Islands’ main island) would actually fit inside the lagoon!

View a map of the lagoon here

The land mass is just 18.5 sq km (7.1 sq miles). The lagoon is quite shallow. In fact three quarters of it is no more than 4.5 metres deep (14.76 ft). The maximum depth only reaches 10.5 metres (34.45 ft). The name Aitutaki is derived from the words God (aitu) and led (taki). Famous first ‘tourists’ have included Captain Cook (1789 and 1792) and Charles Darwin (1835).

March Against Mining–The Mining Sector Bidding For Mining Access

On 1 May 2010 Lucy and 40,000 kiwis marched. The rally was held in Auckland to send a message to their government to stop mining in national parks Lucy was in the front marching with everyone to show her support.

It looks like the issue may become a problem again according to the NZ Herald article which appeared today:

Mining sector 'planning conservation land access'

Less than a year after being defeated by strong public opposition, the mining industry is planning another bid to gain access to minerals lying beneath the conservation estate, leading industry figures have indicated.

Labour MP David Parker yesterday said "senior" mining industry sources had told him they planned to seek an increase in the size of pockets of Schedule Four land, which may be used for mining related activities.

Under current law, miners could obtain permits to allow "interference" on Schedule Four land restricted to areas 10m by 10m….

Less than a year ago, public opinion - including a march down Queen St by 20,000 to 40,000 people led by actors Robyn Malcolm and Lucy Lawless - forced the Government into an embarrassing u-turn over its plans to remove Schedule Four protection from 7058ha of the Department of Conservation estate.

New Lucy Photo Out Shopping At The Neuw Storeroom

Lucy Lawless Neuw and Deus gear

Looks like Lucy was out and about in Auckland and dropped into Auckland's The Neuw Storeroom on 30 May 2011.

The store's official Facebook page posted a pic of Lucy.

Neuw use a concept that they call Vintage Revision where designer Par Lundqvist takes inspiration from his enormous personal vintage jeans collection that he has re-cut and tailored into a modern brand with contemporary fits.  The process and idea to use Vintage Revision took form as a brand concept in 2005 in a house in Nieuwlandstraat, Brussels, Belgium hence the brand name. So far Neuw is sold into selected stores in Australasia and as far away as Scandinavia, and next season launching into respected denim youth fashion store OAK in New York, Fred Segal and American Rag to name a few.

Even more so if you take into account that, as Hollywood has dictated, heroines must not only carry weapons, but also wear ridiculously hot outfits. It doesn’t matter that, in a life-or-death situation, said outfits would prove as appropriate as a steak knife in a vegetarians’ convention. The truth is that an armed babe (it doesn’t matter if she’s wielding a sword, shooting arrows, or firing a bazooka) can tempt us to watch even the worst excuses for films – like Blood Rayne, for example. But hey, we’re weak and these goddesses are strong and beautiful!

SF’s Serial Guest Stars - Lucy Lawless

The Top 10 telefantasy actors we love to see putting in a special appearance, by our special guest star Jayne Nelson

Some actors can’t seem to get enough of sci-fi TV, and even if they’ve never landed themselves a regular gig on a show, their faces become so familiar, they almost feel like honorary members of the sci-fi family. Here we celebrate those serial science fiction guest stars who can raise the standard of an episode just by putting in an appearance.

She’s never quite rediscovered that Xena high, but we still get a thrill seeing her in things like The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Spartacus Blood And Sand and No Ordinary Family

(she also had a cameo as a punk in Spider-Man 2, dontchaknow?)

Lucy's Birthday Toasts and New Message From Lucy

Back in March when Lucy was celebrating her birthday, Sharon Delaney suggested it would be a great idea for fans to toast Lucy in their own unique way. Due to Sharon's Mac going belly up (I think this is the part where I make a joke about the dark side and Macs but I can't since I now own a Mac...) she hasn't had a chance to post the toasts until today.

Happy resurrection day for Sharon's Mac sees the toasts up on Lucy's Official Fan Club Page plus a happy note from Lucy.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge Player Review + Videos

Shocking Introduction: The First 35 Minutes of Hunted: The Demon’s Forge
By Jason Joseph at May 31, 2011 | 1:46 pm

Happy Tuesday, everyone! Every Tuesday is new release day and today, I find myself in the fantasy world of Hunted: The Demon’s Forge. Release by Bethesda and developed by inXile Entertainment, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge features single player and co-op game play that looks like it is going to keep me hooked for a while. The two main protagonists are a rambunctious female elf named E’lana and her hulking male human companion Carric. Also featured in the game is the mysterious Seraphine, who just so happens to be voiced by Lucy Lawless of Xena/Battlestar Galactica fame. Below you will find the prologue mission of the game with game play as both characters. As is normally the case, I can’t wait to get home from work tonight to play some more!
