The first three series plus the prequel spin-off of the US drama which follows life in and around the brutal environs of Ancient Rome's gladiatorial arenas. 'Spartacus - Blood and Sand' (2010) follows Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) as he is torn from his wife and thrust into the bloody and merciless world of the arena. 'Spartacus - Gods of the Arena' (2011) acts as the prequel to the first series and focuses on the gladiatorial hero who preceded Spartacus, Gannicus (Dustin Clare), and his ambitious owner, Batiatus (John Hannah). Gods of the Arena

The House of Batiatus is on the rise, basking in the glow of its infamous champion Gannicus, whose skill with a sword is matched only by his thirst for wine and women. These are the times a young Batiatus has been waiting for. Poised to overthrow his father and take control, he'll freely betray anyone to ensure his gladiators are in the highest demand. Vengeance

On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand', the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic. Containing all of the blood-soaked action, exotic sexuality, villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish the series, the tale of Spartacus resumes in epic fashion.

War of the Damned

Gaius Claudius Glaber is dead. The rebellion has swelled to thousands of freed slaves, and Spartacus, alongside his generals Crixus, Gannicus and Agron, prepares for war with Rome. Last Sunday (21 April) we lost Chrissie Amphlett from the Australian group "The Divinyls" from breast cancer. One of her classic songs was "I Touch Myself". Lucy performed this song at several of her concerts and my favourite performance was last year during her Auckland Concert

Here is the video that we shot at the concert to a packed out King's Arms.

Lucy helped out in during the Big Breakfast Feed The Kids campaign by the NZ political party The Mana Party.

Two thousand schoolchildren tucked into Auckland's biggest breakfast on 17 April.

The Mana Party was hosting students from South Auckland schools at Otara Leisure Centre to promote its Feed The Kids Bill. It aims to have breakfast and lunch programmes provided in all decile one and two schools. Party leader Hone Harawira says the bill recognises the importance of having a full stomach to the wellbeing of all children and he's urging all parties to support it when it is introduced to Parliament in June.

What is coral bleaching?

This scientific study concludes that if climate change is not stopped, coral bleaching is set to steadily increase in frequency and intensity all over the world until it occurs annually by 2030 - 2070.

For some of us you seem to have dropped off the map since Xena.

I kind of did drop off the map. I wanted to have a couple of extra kids and that means that my focus was really not so much on career. To come back and reintroduce yourself takes a lot of doing and I've had lots of opportunities to be more famous than I am and I turned them down for my own reasons. I'm not sorry that I'm not doing network television in the States. It's always about being offered this seven-year contract. Being a single lead means you work really super-long hours. To do seventy, eighty hour weeks is standard. I think you have to have a crushing need for attention to want to cultivate that sort of career. Celebrity seems to be its own currency, or else how could you explain somebody like Paris Hilton? But because I had chosen to have kids I wanted them to have a real mother. If my kids are miserable, I'm miserable. I guess I don't value other people's opinions of me more than I do my own. It doesn't help your career to go away but I'm not sorry. I just knew that it was important to me to have kids. I didn't want to wait too long. My daughter was already eleven by the time my second child was born. I knew I had to knock it off quickly and just let the chips fall where they may. Having kids was something I'd regret not doing. Whatever I'm doing seems like the best thing I've ever done to me. The TV critics have always been fond of me and didn't like me doing the crassly named Vampire Bats (2005). But I was so attracted to living in Louisiana I just had to take the gig. It was fantastic. I got to see New Orleans at its best right up until the time of the hurricane. I just see it all as part of a rich life.

Get ready to hear "I am Spartacus!" one last time. It has only been three years since Spartacus splashed its bloody way across Starz, and Friday's epic series finale (9/8c) will conclude the legendary rebel leader's quest to free the slaves of Ancient Rome. And although history spoils the ultimate outcome, it is how each character has lived — and in some cases, died — that is the key to the show's appeal.

John Hannah & Lucy Lawless, "Quintus Batiatus and wife Lucretia"

Deaths: Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) slashed Batiatus' throat in a gladiator uprising; A seemingly mad Lucretia stole her friend's baby (from her womb!) and then toppled over a cliff with the child to join her husband in the afterlife.

"It would be hard to call it the best death ever, but it was certainly my best death," Hannah says. "It was certainly the hardest. It was the toughest. It lasted for like two days. I seem to remember it was wet." Adds Lawless" "Xena got her head cut off, but this is probably better because that was so ignominious. I always find that a bit humiliating, decapitation.

And I did not just fall off a cliff. I was taking the baby to my husband, where it belonged."

Last night after Lucy's episode of Top of the Lake aired on the Sundance Channel, Lucy tweeted that she will be part of a twitter chat and today, the Sundance Channel tweeted the date and time.

I wasn't sure whether it's 8 PM PST or EST/EDT (I've sent at tweet asking about that so hopefully we get a reply soon. Will update once that is clarified).

Rights that helped us to become a nuclear free nation and end nuclear testing in the Pacific.

Designed to benefit foreign oil companies and penalise ordinary New Zealanders, the 'Anadarko Amendment' was announced on Easter Sunday by Energy Minister Simon Bridges. It will not be open to consultation and or vetting for breaches of the Bill of Rights.

It is an affront to New Zealand’s democracy, and to our long held right and proud tradition of peaceful protest at sea.

This is an interesting blog on the Greenpeace site from Jessica Wilson that featured Lucy

Every couple of months, something bizarre happens at work that convinces me I must have one of the strangest jobs on the planet.

And these moments often come in the form of a question.

Questions like, “Did One Direction’s tweet just break our website?” (Sure did.); or, “Do you think you could ask Lucy Lawless if she minds dressing up as Lady Justice when she scales Shell’s Arctic oil rig?” (In the end she stuck to a t-shirt and her climbing harness, but not before she dug out all kinds of costumes from her tickle trunk and we made a day of it.); or just last week, “Do you reckon we can make it to the North Pole in time to meet the Arctic Council when we’re there?” (So far, it’s looking good.)

So when my boss came to us and asked, “How do we take three million Arctic defenders and plant them on the seabed below the North Pole?” well, we didn’t even flinch.

Lucy Lawless humbly Tweeted that viewers “may not recognize [her]” in her role as Caroline Platt, but we beg to disagree. Remember what we said about Lawless stealing the show wherever she goes? While her time on screen may be brief, this quiet, subdued, but determined woman wants to get to the bottom of something that’s been troubling her, and she knows just who to turn to for help. She might not have the flash and outsized personality many of us associate with Lawless roles, but don’t mistake that for thinking Caroline Platt is weak.

Lucy was NOT in Episode 4 (at least I didn't see her) but she is in Episode 5 (the preview of the episode features Lucy). For those who are watching the mini-series, watch for a "what the hell" moment when Carolyn Platt is talking to Robyn. My first reaction was...what? Did someone forget the storyline? Either that on the events happened way before the events in Episode 1 which doesn't make sense or there's a deleted scene. Very interesting.
