Confirmed: Lucy To Attend Palermo Comic Convention September 2016

Image636023942949369056The following is a translation (thanks Google!) of the Italian website for the Palermo Comic Con:

From this year  Palermo Comic Convention  ushers in a new series of events related to the world of cinema and TV series. Guest of honor for the 2016 edition, is the beautiful and talented  Lucy Lawless , famous interpreter of several TV hits like  XenaBattlestar GalacticaSalemSpartacus  until recent  Ash Vs. Evil Dead  alongside  Bruce Campbell .

The New Zealand actress will attend the festival and will, in addition, a limited number of meetings dedicated to the fans. Its presence in Palermo will include:

  • projection
  • Panel Q & A (questions and answers)
  • The  Meet & Greet with fans  (a meeting with handshake)

It is the will of our organization to ensure that these meetings will grow over the years. there is no maximum intake for a fan who meet their heroes. We believe that this is the healthy spirit of a convention.

Obviously purely logistical reasons will not allow everyone to have access to the meetings mentioned above. So highly we recommend it to all those who were really interested in meeting Lucy to act without delay to adopt the title input necessary that in this case are two types of  Pass , the silver and the gold, regularly purchased in  the ticket of the event page .

Where and when

Palermo Comic Convention held at the Fiera del Mediterraneo, a place known by all the people of Palermo, situated just below the Monte Pellegrino. The exhibition center is easily reached by car or via the various bus lines which served the city of Palermo.

Lucy Performing At Bloomsday Event in Auckland–East and Bays Courier (NZ) 8 June 2016

Image636009063790517965The New Zealand newspaper East and Bays Courier has a brief mention of Lucy performing at Bloomsday Event

Illustrious Kiwi actors Lucy Lawless and Michael Hurst will appear at Auckland’s annual Bloomsday celebration. June 16, 7.30pm at The Thirsty Dog on K Rd.

As previously announced on 17 May, here is the press release and the information about the performance

PRESS RELEASE

Lucy Lawless & Michael Hurst Team Up for Worm-crawling Dungheap.

It’s a dazzling line-up for Auckland’s annual Bloomsday celebration on June 16. Appearing again this year are international stars Lucy Lawless and Michael Hurst from the epic sandals & skirts TV soap Xena, Warrior Princess.

Lucy Lawless will be playing Gerty MacDowell, lonely seaside siren of Sandymount Rocks. Michael Hurst will be turning the broody, abstract Stephen Dedalus into a song & dance man. They will be joined by Geraldine Brophy, one of NZ’s foremost TV and movie actors, and Bruce Hopkins -Gamling in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Geraldine Brophy will be reading the really unrestrained parts of Molly Bloom’s unrestrained soliloquy.

Bruce Hopkins will appear once more as the fearful and fearsome transvestite dominatrix Bella Cohen, transmogrifying this year into Helen of Mt Albert, imperious Queen of the World, the face that lunched a thousand countries. Music will come from Linn Lorkin & the Jews Brothers Band, mezzo soprano Yuko Takahashi, Jean McAllister, tenor Chris Trotter.

Dublin actor Brian Keegan will be reading, Farrel Cleary will be performing graciously and union organiser Joe Carolan ungraciously. The show takes place one night only, June 16—a Thursday this year—and will be at the Thirsty Dog in K Rd’s red-light area, a fitting location for a subject once described as, “a heap of dung, crawling with worms, photographed by a cinema apparatus through a microscope… All the secret sewers of vice are canalised in its flood of unimaginable thoughts, images and pornographic words.”

Bloomsday is the celebration of a single day, June 16, 1904, the setting of James Joyce’s great comic novel, Ulysses. On that single all-including day Joyce re-imagines Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey unfolding out onto the streets and seaside and red-light district of Dublin in 1904. Homer’s hero Odysseus becomes a Dublin Jew, Leopold Bloom. Around the world Bloomsday is celebrated on June 16.

Aucklanders and Auckland performers have taken the annual event to heart and London’s Guardian newspaper has listed the Auckland Bloomsday as one of the best.

When: Thu 16 Jun 2016, 7:30pm–10:30pm
Where: The Thirsty Dog, 469 Karangahape Rd, Newton, Auckland

Restrictions:All Ages

Ticket Information: Door Sales Only

Updated: Another ‘Witch’ Role for Lucy in The NZ Movie: The Changeover

Image636004179111258108Firefly films has released the character name for Lucy’s role in the New Zealand film The Changeover. Lucy plays the role of Miryam Carlisle.

According to the novel, Lucy’s character is that of Miryam Carlisle, Sorenson's mother, a witch. Apparently she comes from a line of witches because Miryam’s mother is also a witch!

We used to keep count how many times Lucy died as Xena and other roles. Now I think we need to keep count how many ‘witch’ roles Lucy is doing!

Interview: Genevieve Valentine talks Xena: Warrior Princess Comic Book #4,

ImageGenevieve Valentine is interviewed on the Dyanmite comic book site:

Genevieve talks about Xena: Warrior Princess #4, on sale in July from Dynamite.

Click here to read the full interview

BB: As the book reaches issue #4 in July, are there any aspects of this tale that you would love to take in another direction – even in a spinoff series maybe, or a sequel – to explore in more detail? If so, what are they?

GV: There are so many places any Xena story can go (one of the things I love about her!). But I can't lie, my first thought about this – based on an offhand comment in issue #3 – was a flashback issue about Ares and that dramatic-ass cape constantly trying to smooth-talk his way into places where he expects Xena to be, absolutely failing at every turn, and sullenly collecting a bunch of Xena merchandise just to deflect everybody's suspicions about the guy who keeps "casually" pretending to look for a woman who's been dead for 25 years. Would it work? No. Did it stop me from imagining it? Nope.
